WoW this, WoW that: Why are FFXIV forum users so obsessed with WoW refugees?

A lot of these is due to fear mongering and misinformation that anyone who plays wow hates final fantasy and people hear stories about asmongold or whoever else dunking on ffxiv and then go into full meltdown thinking everyone from wow hates ff and wants it to die.

This community has had its fair share of toxic players from day one and always will. Another part to this is all the content creators and media people running around about how ffxiv has the one of the best communities in gaming.. and people tend to take that as “oh we are so great we have no toxicity and if anyone sees any it must be from a wow player or a gw2 player or where ever else” which is just flat wrong.

As a GW2 refugee (yes we exist), i don't understand all this hate for WoW refugees.

Is it just as a scapegoat? Do you find it that hard to believe FFXIV could have its own toxic players?

We've had WoW refugees in GW2 since a long time and GW2's community was never "WoW toxic, GW2 good", instead, they always welcomed them and sometimes even went as far as gifting them an expansion.

I've met a bunch of "WoW refugees" in FFXIV and they are actually funny and down-to-earth people. Obviously, experiences can vary for everyone, but i feel like all this hate is unwarranted from the so-called and proclaimed "nicest MMO community".

Because people like to generalize.

For example, out of the many threads created in General Discussion, how many are dedicated to "WoW refugee" and is that number big enough for you to consider FFXIV forum users as being obsessed with them? Also, how many people do you see hating on them in the forums in contrast to people defending them or apathetic toward them?

It's because the few people who make those types of post think they're playing the "better" game with a "better" community.

Sure, the community may be friendly- for newer players. This game is just as toxic as WoW or any other MMO when you been playing for a while.

I think it goes without saying that the two threads made about this topic were just troll threads.

It really is just the squeaking wheel situation. This is nothing new. But you do see stuff like this blow up a lot on the forums. Just look at almost any info for shafowbringers as a good example. The average person does not read the forums and is also why the whining threads get largely ignored by the developers. The people on the forums are the minority.

This IS one of the nicest MMO communities...and it needs to stay that way. WoW players are different from what lurks on their forums. The WoW forum community is trash. Yes, I said trash. One of the main reasons I left WoW after 13 years was the awful community.

Both communities are not that different, dude. Theres so many here complaining about other people complaining and just hating on each other. WoW community is nothing special.
