That's a pretty shit attitude. Maybe you should try single player games. We have just your side of the story, but if I was on their place, and I see you performing poorly, I'd give advice too, and if you don't want to improve, then I gladly vote kick you. The option is there for a reason. And I use it very often with people who doesn't want to listen.

Why should I keep my opinion for myself in an open, public general discussion forum? And thanks for calling me elitist just for wanting to play the game decently. You can't report people for giving advice in a group, nor for kicking you if you didn't follow said advice. And I'm not gonna waste more posts replying to you.

I generally won't kick someone for performance unless they are trying to sabotage the run or doing stuff like running ahead of the tank after being asked not to or being rude/insulting. If things are going really slow slow I might give advice if ignored might complain/joke about it with FC/LS/ingame wife I'm running with at the game but eh if its going fast I appreciate it but typically don't expect it in DF.

You can play very well and be treated like a noob. Because they have decided and the whole team will decide that this is the case in a dungeon or raid.As long as, to the best of your knowledge, you're contributing your best. When it's not high-end content, it's whatever, and most people won't care. They expect the people in dungeons to not perform well because of reasons like it being their first time, low gear or not being hugely experienced beyond doing the story.
It only takes one person to care and try to nitpick you to ruin your day, when you're just trying to enjoy the story. They can offer advice of course, but it should be polite and the problem is that it usually isn't.
Unfortunately, the chances are that you'll have a few encounters with nitpickers who can't chill out during your time playing FFXIV. It's usually worse for tanks and healers though because their performance affects whether the party lives or dies and its pace.
If I was doing The Aery I wouldn't miss a DPS. They could disconnect and it would still be a clear. If they can't clear it then it is also partially on them, really.
There is no justice on the Net. If the idiots had to impact my day for the number of times I'm judged for the wrong reason, I think I have enough to depress 10x a day.

I mostly don't care as long we advance a good pace and I never give unsolicited advice, still, if your class has a better pet for certain situations, why don't use the appropriate one? And, why some are defending this?

Working as intended. You meet your party's expectations or you form your own party.
If you don't, that's what kicks resolve.
Those who don't take advice and play poorly shouldn't be encouraged to play poorly. You should keep your opinions to yourself. If you queue with duty finder you have a chance of joining players that won't play up to your apparently lofty standards. If you don't like it queue with your other elitist friends. I would report you in a half a second if you were in my group.
If you are new, players give you advice, and you give attitude then you aren't going to make it.

Sadly you are gonna meet people like that every now and then, don't let it get to you just try to move on.
also if they say something like "you are doing low dps etc" ask them how they know it and if they say "parser" > you now have a valid reason for reporting them.

The whole basic thing is moot because we don't have the full story. It's impossible to judge this situation because of that. Could the OP have been a lack luster DPS who politely declined advice? sure.. they also could have gone off on a tangent that ended similarly to the "YOU DONT PAY MY SUB! DONT TELL ME HOW TO PLAY MY JOB!" crap we've all heard far too long, or heck the other party members could have been rude and insulting. There's too many variables. Vote kick is a tool at player disposal to solve issues like this. If there was an abuse I'm not sure what coming to forums is meant to accomplish.
5 minutes of feeling special cause people are talking about your case? This is or rather was a matter for the GMs and not our place to even voice an opinion on because to do so just makes you assume what happened with minimal facts.

It's astounding the number of times you fail to follow your own advice.
No one is obligated to carry and handhold people who don't want to improve. If they don't care that they're helding back the rest of the party, they're the ones who should stick to single player games.
