    The DPS focused buffs on the AST cards actually cause more problems for party comps.

    I'm talking about the fact that the better buff on all the cards, including Lord/Lady, is limited to DPS. Not just that but exactly 50% of the cards are for ranged and 50% are for melee.

    If you haven't noticed the problem it means that the optimal party comp for AST now is an even divide of Melee/Ranged. Does your 4 man have all melee DPS? Well half your deck is suboptimal. This also effects the setups of any 8 man that contains an AST and I foresee the new RNG being whether or not your roulettes give you too many of one type.

    For all this talk of breaking meta job synergy it seems like this is a major oversight, especially for high end statics, they'll want no more than two of each ranged/melee.

    Um... not wanting an all melee or all ranged party is a good thing.

    Also, tanks probably count as melee and healers probably count as ranged.

    They don't count, the cards specifically say "Melee DPS" or "Ranged DPS" for the stronger buff. Also what I'm saying is that it forces an even divide of Melee/Ranged. I never said what setup is best, I'm saying that's the only optimal choice for the AST cards now.

    Must've been an oversight from translation team then.
    The Japanese tooltips just state that they only have to be melee attacker or range attacker. Nothing about them being specifically melee DPS or Range DPS.



    As for the comp, they've been trying to force 2 melees/2 ranges since forever, so this shouldn't come as a surprise to you. When they said they wanted to tone down synergy, they specifically meant something like Dragoon and Physical range jobs, or just the whole debuff def. down in general.

    When the game releases, I'll walk up to a training dummy and use the melee dps increase on myself and record whether or not my AAs deal 6% more damage, or 3%.
    The glory of a Melee Attacker Astrologian can only be insane.

    The biggest issue I see involves any time an AST groups with random parties whether that's the PF or Roulette, hopefully it is just any Melee or Ranged cause if not I see a lot of problems in the future.

    I don't see a problem with this.

    In serious 8-man content, you'll want to have at least one melee and ranged anyway.
    In more casual content (dugeons, normal mode raids, alliance raids), while not having one of the types will suck, the difference doesn't matter that much.

    There's also a chance they would adjust Duty Finder so that it tries to assign at least one of each, at least for 8-man content? Who knows.
