most of the cards were useful except bole and spire imo
now cards are just the worlds smallest flowchart
1) is it a symbol you dont have yet? yes:use card no:go to line 2
2) is redraw available? yes:use and go to line 1 no:use minor arcanum

I really hope SE will ignore this here. I'm looking forward to test the changes instead of complaining.
We will see if they maybe reduce the cooldown of the seal buff thing(don't know the name on top of my head). SInce then it would be more play around the actual SEALS.
But really, i'm just as mad about whm not getting anything more than the wings for defensive utility even if they SHOULD... but.. maybe...
Just maybe, it won't be that bad?
I'm not saying it will be the best thing possible but, consider this:
there are a ton of asts not using their cards right. Or use cards to begin with. There are Asts that NEVER use cards, never, even if you ask them if they could.
And it's really not like it's the most fun in the world "oh spire/ewer, time to royal road, oh spire/ewer again, time to minor arcana, oh... spire/ewer again."
And sleevedraw just giving trash isn't better either. YOu will see me complain in raids about my shitty cards.
All cards being useful in some way is nice, even if the 3 types could have been splitted so they're... ranged/melee specific but ALSO have different buffs each.
But ONLY balance and spear is good and sometimes arrow if you don't have anything else, at least the blm is happy about that one.
Of course, i won't tell you "omg this can't be too bad!" because it MAY be. But being like "omg ast is so bad now i hate it, i will never play it again" without at least looking at it?
I for one, am thinking about doing the story as whitemage. Since i like whitemage. I hate that asylum/plenary change but i will judge it for myself... even if i know it will not be good since it will never matter over shields.

You know, why not just change the cards to buff main stats; VIT, STR, DEX, INT, & MND. Then use Ewer to replenish MP. You can keep Seal of Arcana the same.
Based on experience with how content works with this game, I can tell just from reading tool tips what I will be doing with a job. Nothing they have shown me with healing appeals to me at all.We will see if they maybe reduce the cooldown of the seal buff thing(don't know the name on top of my head). SInce then it would be more play around the actual SEALS.

If other people like the new thing, good for them.
RIP old cards. I actually enjoyed them.
May be the case but i will check it out first to see if it is fun for me. Others can tell me it's not fun and i can still find it fun. There may be things that need to be changed like a little potency on some skills and all, but i think it could be fine.
Some people just SEEM like they give up on it because they think it might not be fun with card management or something, even if playing that yourself is the best way to determine that part. Of course, you can also just keep telling yourself that it won't be fun and then it turns out to not be fun so you go "HAH I KNEW IT!!!" but the card change seem the most "test it to know it". It can make or break the class for some, but so do the cards now since some don't even use them and play ast on 70, so i don't know man.
I don't find ast card playing that complex or difficult or whatever, it's just a thing i do in between throwing out heals or dps.(same with sch tbh since it's just hitting a few more buttons and oh--- dots ran out, time to refres and spam broil till they do but that's just me) but my friend who doesn't play 14 finds it insane to watch because he doesn't really know what's going on. What i mean with that is just, watching it is something completely different from doing it yourself
Ps: sorry for errors or anything, i'm just tired

That's kinda my point though. I don't care for the "simplified" direction the game is taking on as a whole. It honestly feels dumbed down to me.That's assuming it actually is turning into the "coin flip" it's being described as here.
To me it sounds like the actual process hasn't changed much at all. You're still drawing cards and identifying which party member you should give them to, even if the decision process is simplified.

You're not wrong, but to pretend that all, or even most, Astrologians are thinking strategically and are experts at situational card slangin' is a bit much. Balance takes prestige, and we all get that dopamine rush when we get an AOE Balance. SE has just acknowledged what we are already doing and adapted the job. Obviously, this is a change which won't be welcomed by everyone, but it seems a little melodramatic to mourn for The Spire.
Very much this ---^ And honestly, I liked having a bigger variety of utility at the expense of a little randomness. The job had its own unique flavor. Feels like we're turning a fun game of chance into card-counting... using a deck with only 2 suits and five numbers. It is caused by different players with different styles, mentalities and mind sets, where most of the time 'dps first' is what is perceived as what the majority wants and therefore focused on. As of 5.0 ALL the games jobs will cater to this mindset, disregarding those who prioritize non-dps-related utility. Astrologian was the only job that was different in that sense, and players who were drawn to it because of that(like me) can no longer play the kind of job they prefer. There is no alternative to switch to, while players with a 'dps first' mindset have every job to choose from.
And did I read correctly that our only stun is being turned into a minor group heal with a 120 second recast and no other effect? Yikes, I'd hate to eat the bland stuff coming out of SE's kitchen.
Stop with these "omuhgawd healer ruined" threads. The changes are fantastic and most players in game are taking about picking up healing. But all these threads talking nonsense about " i didnt get what i want petetion to change it" and try to justify it as balance. I am so glad SE has the brains to know which comments to take seriously and make the right decision like they did with healers and the new races. So glad that they are developing ff14 and not the side arm of the forums because the game would be broken beyond repair.
Keep up the good work SE and good luck in these troll forums
