Oh this does work, the problem is knowing which mobs aren't sound aggro lol. I was easily able to walk past the crabs, I haven't tried since subpatch, but it does explain why they won't release a sneak and invisible spell for XIV.
Extra Easy Mode - You Want It? :/It's nearly impossible to pass on several dangerous monsters that are at lv 70+ unless an army of groups of friends or Ls are willing to throw one body after another just so a crystal port can be discovered. This isn't an achievement this is suicide. I understand (correct me if I'm wrong) that there will be a little increase level cap some time later in the future but even so some monsters need some readjustment of their level so exploration can be fun and exiting.
Come on guys, a little bit of adventure won't hurt anyone...
It seems like some people are struggling with the gates.
Check out this guide I made: Wanderers Guide to the Aetherial Gates
I'll be updating it with specific strategies for each of the gates in the near future.

I got most of them alone and some of them with a friend, takes many hours and need patience but it can be done.
Drakes, Salamanders and Crabs are sound aggro, you can walk past them, if you say you tried it and it doesnt work you lie.
For the Smolenkos use archer's Decoy and Gladiator's Sentinel, you will get past them easily on Chocobo.
Thats it.
EDIT: Treat Hogs as sight and sound aggro, they are unpredictable, same with Raptors (You can sneak behind Raptors though)

I duoed the The Isles of Umbra one with my sister, it wasn't a cake walk, it was exciting. We did have trouble with the South Bloodshore one, that's the last one in that zone we don't have yet and we aren't going to ask the devs to get rid of the monsters just because we had trouble.
Leave the monsters in, some things need to be hard, require luck, easier with a group or right abilities.
Also, did not think of just walking... will have to toggle run off and try again.
Just a heads up, if you walk through water, it will still aggro you. Going for South Bloodshore, I found this out the fun way.
I just got the La Noscea achievement doing this.
Actually they seem to be true sound aggro. For anyone that didn't play FFXI, this basically means they're sound aggro, but you can't walk past them to avoid aggroing them. The best strategy for these mobs is to stay as far away from them as possible, waiting for them to go into a side passage when getting the shroud gates. For reference, wolves, gnats, morbols, antlings and hippogryphs act the same way.
If they're standing in the river, it's probably the water causing you to aggro them. I aggroed a crab on my way South Bloodshore when I stepped in the water, then walked right past them after aggro wore when I stayed on the sand.Actually they seem to be true sound aggro. I got all of my Aetherytes before 1.18 came out. A lot of other players did too. It can be done, with no warp exploit or anything. You just have to be patient. Just like the first time we all had to run to Mor Dhona for the main storyline quests. That took me a while cause they have level 60-70 mobs on the path out of the Blackshroud to Mor Dhona. I was level, i'm sorry, rank 36ish when I did that one. Not easy, but doable. You can do it too, just be prepared to be standing in one spot for 10 or 15 minutes at a time while you wait for an opportunity to pass. You either warp exploited or got help. It's physically impossible to pass a row of crabs (example: La Noscea) west side near Bold knoll and they're level 70. They only way you got "lucky" is switching to a gathering job throwing a stone to stun a monster temporarily, but even then recast time and not enough time to get away to get on shot hit from a distance.
I tested this in the shroud with no water around(the truffle hogs above crimson bark), so that's not the case. Also iirc I walked in water around the crabs and aurelia of south bloodshore and they didn't aggro me, but I'll test this.
