Alphinaud is becoming a Scholar

Not sure if this was brought up at any point. But in one of the gameplay reveals from the embargo removal the Trust system shows the Leveilleur and Alphinaud is a Scholar.

Meaning that Alphinaud is literally the only Scion to get a logical job evolution.

I can kinda see the others. Thancred's lost his magicks and most jobs are aetherial in some capacity; GNB has pre-enchanted ammo he can have made by someone else. Alisaie's is tied into her "finding herself" journey. Minfilia got a dagger as a gift from Louisoix and hangs out with Thancred. And Urianger is ... well, he's archaic and esoteric and mystical and awkward af. Ergo Astro. Assuming that blank space is for Y'shtola Matoya, who's always been a bit of a magicks hodgepodge and it's a good day for destruction.

Urianger also makes a lot of sense as astrologian because it's a Sharlayan discipline - so of course a Sharlayan mage with a specific interest in prophecies will have studied their scientifically-proven fortune-telling art. I'm expect he's had the skills all along, from a story perspective, and just hasn't been using it as his primary class.

As someone who played Scholar in XI, and very much saw it as the mirror to Red Mage, it is oddly pleasing to have the twins play the two Jobs. Not quiet the same for XIV obviously, if anything Red Mage mirrors Astrologian while Scholar and Summoner naturally share a root.

Will he still be using Carbuncle though? I've wanted a fully fleshed out Pet Glamour system for the longest time, and Scholar getting a Carbuncle option (with something like Healing Ruby as a skill) was a part of that...

I'm still very curious how that's going to work out, given lorewise Phoenix is meant to be a deep dark secret known only to four people, including ourselves? Three of those people can't possibly pass that information onto Y'mhitra at this point, so I guess we dun messed up... Although with the shift away from Job quests to Role quests, and Demi Phoenix being a Lv72 skill, I guess it's just something we came up with ourselves, rather than something with any story attached to it...

Of course, thinking about it, given Phoenix is often attributed to some healing aspects, it's entirely possible he upgrades to Phoenix-Egi with Scholar, rather than a Fae... I believe one of Summoners new skills attached to Demi Phoenix is even a weakened version of Whispering Dawn...

I agree it would be great to see him with the Phoenix summon... but I do wonder if it's subtly happened already.

In Heavensward battle instances, I noticed that he was using a Ruby Carbuncle summon. While it's possible it was a genuine Carbuncle, we've only seen it associated with Ifrit-Egi, but Alphinaud shouldn't be able to summon that. On the other hand, we know he'd be able to call on a different fire-based egi - one that must be kept a secret...



There's also a small possibility they could let him take on either role, depending on what is required for the dungeon.

Could be that we figured it's safe to summon Phoenix in this other world where it doesn't need to be kept secret in the same way? Although of course that raises issues when we get back to Eorzea and keep using it...

Dang, I have to say, I love the Leveilleur's new outfits.

That being said, I think it suits him, I actually always thought he's be the scholar and Alisaie the summoner (based on their personnality, loosely). But red mage fits Alisaie greatly, and Alphi as a scholar is fine. Maybe we'll be able to change their jobs ? Perhaps we can actually sortof 'level' them (not like the squad but something along these lines) or choose among a few pre-selected jobs for them (like Thancred could be PLD, NIN or GUN ? Since we witnessed him with these jobs in previous expacs)

Perhaps, with Suzaku coming to light in Stormblood though, I guess we could simply pass it off as that, rather than the truth? We met an actual live Phoenix, rather than some phony summoned one, although that does call into question how we got Primal-Phoenix aether to build a Demi version, but I'm sure the layman doesn't know Summoners mechanics in that detail anyway.

Firebird Trance is Lv72 though, no? I guess that's not technically a summoning, but it's still us deciding to use Phoenix aether in exactly the same way we ended up using Bahamut aether, without guidance.
