Theres kids playing, kids are dumb. High schoolers are edgelords extreme and you cannot control them online as you are not their parent. If you want to be safe, turn off the chat, play on JP, or go to an M for Mature online game where the -hopefully- 18+ community will be more sensitive.

In EU is PEGI 16+ besides the game has content designed for every age and people should not stop enjoying the game because of someone else kid bad behavior.

That's why I will stream with chat off not giving my two cents on someone else obnoxious old sad jokes or even shout drama.

I wouldn't report someone for language like that. I just don't think it's a way that people should be shifting the meaning of words.

But claim it's offensive and that idea will catch on.

You can't control how words change, it's a natural evolution, besides, "cancerous" being used in this way is by no means a new development.

While that's definitely true, that doesn't mean that it's okay.

Whether or not it's okay is irrelevant. I hate such use of language too, but it's not something you can really fight. Debating about whether or not such language should exist is not productive because it will always exist. The question is how to live with it.

This just seems like the wrong way to go about approaching it.

I'm speaking up about how it might be offensive because I want people to realise why it might be upsetting to others, and stop doing it. Especially if they're doing it because they just haven't realised the implications.

Not because I want them to get banned because I said the thing they are doing is offensive.

And if the "idea catches on" that it's offensive? That probably means it is, and the people who report them for it probably would have done so regardless of my opinion on it.

Should people who are saying really offensive things (not specificially this debate) be allowed to continue because nobody wants to tell them it's offensive?

It's so easy to find other words to use in this situation. Something that isn't repurposing a word with another meaning.



That said, I agree that there are appropriate contexts for "cancerous" as a descriptive term, where something is having a negative effect equivalent to what a cancer has on a body.

"O10S is cancerous" is not one of those appropriate contexts.

Words only mean stuff because we attribute meanings to them. Without that, they're merely pixels on a screen, sounds resonating from vocal chords, etc.

With the invention of the internet, every word in existence has a "normal meaning" and an "internet meaning".

When they say something about cancer, they don't mean cells mutated to have uncontrolled cell division.

When they say something about autism, they don't mean the neurological condition by the same name.

Except, they do?

Why else would they be using those exact words?
