So are you just being offended for someone else who may or may not be offended by that?
I wonder what having a conversation would be like if we actually weren't allowed to use any words that ever offended anybody ever.
Taken from ESRB for FF14: Online Interactions Not Rated by the ESRB.
Which means your interactions will vary from person to person on this game. You can't force your entire viewpoint on an entire population of thousands of players. Yes, I get some words shouldn't be used. Yes, I understand people may be offended. Everything and everyone will be offended by something in this world. There's no changing that. No one can just eliminate something just because it 'offends' them. You will never see or hear from the majority of these players you que up with, do DF things, etc. They are just a stranger on the internet and will be that. People have to realize everything won't cater to them on the world-wide web. Use the tools available in game to help. (Ex: BLACKLIST, even though it needs a lot of work, i will agree with).
Communication is a big key in this game. You can't really avoid it; It's part of getting through tough content together. It's going to be vital when Shadowbringers releases when everything is completely new. You have the choice to not chat, that's fine! However, when there's new content, you should TRY to at least communicate with fellow players to clear said content. Just the bare minimum, you know? Any MMO population will not be rainbows and stars. There will always be people that will make angry, frustrated, irritated, etc. Just have to learn these people are complete strangers and randoms you go into the DF with. It's different from the people you know in real life. This is the mindset I've come to use when dealing with people in the DF.
Watched (literally) my best friend die of cancer.
Have no problem calling things cancer.
Ill at least not need a eulogy after experiencing that kind.
Grow thinker skin and move on. There is nothing you or anyone can do to stop it and trying will make it worse.
In EU you can do something about it but just if happens irl for example if it is hate speech, obscenity or defamation directed towards your person you can press charges in some European countries hate speech is a public offence crime.
There are public cases of defamation who won in Supreme Court of the United States.

Man...Grow up.
My issue is there is a difference between hurtful commentary and slang. People use a lot of stuff as slang, and it is clear it is slang. Slang is a natural part of langauge. The irony being that you probably use a ton of slang yourself and dont even realize it. The issue then becomes that you are becoming offended other people are using slang. I mean, you seem to understand its slang (and it's a lot less a thing of fashion than driving home a quick point with hyperbole), yet you still allowed yourself to become offended and hurt. And rather than address the offense and talk about it with people and try to be like "Hey, can we chill on that stuff." or just shrug it off cause it's of no concequence to you, you set yourself to busy status, and then left.
You did nothing to address an issue you had, ran away in fear from it, and then even paid money to leave the datacenter over ' Fear of harassment.' Which says a lot about you rather than your FC, particularly when you are quick to call them morons for finding a meme with some slang hilarious. Did you just assume that cause they use slang that you personally find a touch distasteful that they would be that kind of crowd who would harass you? That seems an awful lot like an assumption on your part.
I get it when things can get to far. When it becomes harassment, involves direct racial slurs, or extremely derogatory. Im not against saying "Hey quit it." or trying to hash it out, but I think this entire post is a demonstration of your immaturity and (quite frankly) overreaction to a non-issue. It feels like you're trying to justify your own immaturity on this whole thing by bringing it to the forum to see if people will agree with you.
So yeah, grow up man. You ran away from something instead of addressing it, and then you come to the forums here to let people know you did this thinking what? That people should back you and pat you on the back saying "You made the right choice." Jeez. Even if I dont agree with you on getting upset (which I think is also super childish), I wouldve given you some level of credit at the least if you stuck around and addressed it, but you didnt.
Not to diminish any of what OP is expressing, I get that there's only so much a person is willing to put up with, but the Xbox LIVE voice chat back in the day would blow your mind.
In some ways, I agree that the trendy vernacular this day and age can be...obnoxious to say the least, but it used to be a lot worse. In others...the thicker the skin, the higher you go. Reporting and ignoring it requires virtually no effort at all. Dwelling on it and getting on a soapbox expends more energy than you might prefer.
Just my $0.02.
