What I fail to understand is why casual play in a T for Teen mmo marketed with kawaii uguu catgirls is a bad thing.
While tank stance is perfectly fine in Normal content and dungeons, unless OT'ing ofc, I'd recommend learning to use dps stance in current EX. These trials enrage timers are actually designed with both tanks in dps stance and healers dealing some damage in mind. While the requirements aren't that high, if you tank stance the whole thing, a dps has to over-perform or you can't afford as many deaths and you are being carried.
Not meant as a dig, I can understand your situation and if you only run with friends then play as you like. Just good to be aware of. Tanking will be different in ShB but I expect EX will still be on a different level to Normal.
Grats on the clears though![]()
I think the changes are mostly because tanking in DPS stance is counter-intuitive to how the jobs were designed. The simple fact that tanking in DPS stance was better than in tank stance showed that the design was broken to begin with.
The solution is elegant in my opinion, it could have been worse. They could have kept both stances, and made you take 50% more damage in DPS stance, forcing people into tank stance at a much lower DPS. Now you can go into tank stance at no loss in DPS, its simply, elegant and intuitive.
The issue I have with this is the definition of casual. The final fantasy 14 community has a different definition of casual than the rest of the world pretty much. Because here. Casual basically means "easy" and doesn't actually mean casual at all.
Theres nothing at all wrong with a game being casual friendly. Counter strike is a very casual friendly game. You can pick it up play for a couple of hours put it down come back to it next week for a couple more hours play it casually whenever you have a bit of free time and fancy a but of dust2 or casbah. (If those maps still exist)
The same is true of 14. Being able to pick it up and play on a casual basis is no problem... bit the ffxiv mindset is that casual means easy mode. And making everything easy is a problem as it makes the game less rewarding and satisfying to play..
Theres no accomplishment in succeeding when its impossible to fail.
I would categorise myself as a casual gamer in that even though I generally play games on harder difficulties, I play randomly for random periods. So where I may have just grabbed a new game and jumped straight into professional difficulty. It might take me a few weeks to actually finish as I might only play it an hour or two a week.
Categorizing myself as casual does not mean I expect everything to be mind numbingly easy or simplistic or even handed to me because I don't have much free time to play... so when you read casualbringers. What people actually mean is easybringers

Tanks have never been MORE complex, with ShB.
Just a bunch of people missing a chromosome or three thinking thst Tank stance and aggro combos were engaging gameplay, LOL.
Yeah, having only one tank pull instead of all four is sooooo bad.
Hold up... What? Tank? Complex? You serious right now?
