The new outfits are lovely but after reading about some historical context surrounding that style of clothing has admittedly made me a bit wary about getting it...

I have been waiting for that flying carpet to be released however. Shame it's not a multi-seater though, and it would have made a neat Ananta Beast Tribe reward too (even though they already have two mount rewards, but still).

For crying out loud, stop bringing that crap up.

The outfits are nothing more than the uniforms students had in Japan in the 1920s. Yes, also in the 20s Japan was occupying Korea. No one is excusing Japan for actions taken during the occupation, but the clothes are nothing more than the uniforms for students at the time (Japanese students AND occupied Korean students).

I agree they should probably avoid selling the clothes on the Korean version of the game, but there's no disrespect or controversy about selling clothes similar to those worn by Japanese students in the 1920s.

If FFXIV Sold American Slave attire, would it be okay to sell it in Korean markets? Just as long as they do not sell it in America?

"Due to Union measures such as the Confiscation Acts and Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, the war effectively ended slavery, even before ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment in December 1865 formally ended the legal institution throughout the United States."

Except" American slaves" (or slavers for that matter) didn't have any unique attire.

What's next? "No one may wear this set inspired by clothes in the 40s, because WW2 was going on and it reminds people of the Nazi"?

So if FFXIV took some of the images and made an outfit out of it, no one would make the connection at all? And it would be okay?

I don't know the answer, but I think knowledge and awareness is important. You let people's $$ determine if it is socially acceptable or not. *shrugs*

It's more like bringing in a soldier outfit that is pretty much a Nazi uniform sans the arm band.

Maybe it's just clothing, but it is clothing that carries horrible memories and trauma for a number of people still alive today who lived through the atrocities committed by people who wore things like that.

It's also a little tasteless for them to have pushed for this to get an international release when there have been two KR outfits we've yet to receive - both of which have no traumatic connotations for an entire region of people tied to their design.

Except like Kaedan said, they're basically student uniforms, not soldier uniforms. Japan doesn't have to erase its history to appeal to Korea. If it was the actual soldier uniforms, yeah you'd have a point. But civilian clothes?
