I've played SWTOR, trust me... NOTHING SPECIAL TO SEE THERE.

If it's your cup of tea, fine go play it.

it's a warcraft clone in space. V.O. is a gimmick, you'll be skipping past all the VO just to get the quest after the first hour or so of listening to the NPCs. The "personal story" is so poorly written, it's laughable. But like I said if you want to go play it, but it's not an epic game that the hype set it out to be.

The noob zone in TOR feels a lot more epic than killing marmots and Dodo's >.> Or running to a crystal with a fence around it. I remember starting the game as a fisher way back, and I got to throw a stone for 1 damage at a jellyfish. Never had such an epic video game experience.

You get stuffed for Aetheryte crystals with fences around as you get stuff for epic SWTOR camps or whatever you wanna call them =)
That's just because it'll be the same sh*t again, and it doesn't matter how good or epic you do it, players will not even notice that.

I have 8 crafts at 50. All I did was watch T.V. and spam standard for easy mode synths. Enjoy leveling those crafts in 1.19 and beyond everyone!

Enjoy TOR, TC. I know I am and a lot of people here don't really know what a quality MMO is since all they really play is XIV so you'll get a lot of criticism. WoW clone or not, WoW is the best selling MMO for a reason....because it did everything right and it was advertised properly unlike XIV unfortunately. So while TOR might be a clone, it's a far better MMO than XIV is at the moment.

Make sure you at least come back to check out 2.0 or any of the big patches to take a break from TOR. I'll be alternating between the two, but playing XIV a lot less, lol.

Yo Rowyne, what server you on? My boyfriend and I are on Elysium, and we like you. Look up Dyne or Tamberly if you find yourself out our way!

I'm on Sanctum Of The Exalted (my char is Rowyne, my husband is Romax). Maybe I'll see some of you around!

We both hit level 20 tonight, and can't get enough of the questing (sorry naysayers, but some of us who don't like pointless grinding and prefer quest-based leveling do read all the quests and don't skip through them). The Jedi Consular storyline is great, especially if you like being a healer.

George Lucas puts his stamp of approval on everything SW. So far, I think the writing is great. The game takes story elements from other standalone SW games, plus some of the KOR books.

The four major reasons that made me decide against subbing to FFXIV on Jan 6th, I don't have to deal with in SW:TOR.
    1. FFXIV has slow-paced non-interactive melee combat, whereas combat in SW:TOR is action-packed and fun. I jump in with my lightsaber, the epic battle music begins, the action immediately starts. No helplessly watching your auto-attack and waiting on TP like the agonizingly slow combat changes we got in FFXIV with 1.20.
    2. FFXIV has a clear lack of story-driven content. However, leveling in SW:TOR is fun and is nothing but story-driven content. I'm a quester. I read every single bit of every quest that's thrown my way. I just can't get around the lack of lore, story, and traditional quests in FFXIV. Yoshida has stated that "Final Fantasy XIV will gradually shift from being a grind-centric game to one that offers enjoyment for all playing styles and circumstances with its ever-expanding variety of content." And that players will be able to take on "large volumes of quests" that require actual interaction with NPCs. So I appreciate that quests in FFXIV now yield exp, and that they've been adding more of them, but it's still not enough to progress with. I'm hoping this will change with 2.0, but I don't see them bothering with a real effort in this regard before then.
    3. The return of the grind. Sadly, despite the new mission statement, the leveling method of choice is now old-school grinding parties. How did this happen? Levequests were repositioned as solo-content because, obviously, doing the same quests over and over were driving people insane (heck if the devs had played WoW for a week, they would have realized that a routine of daily quests drives people crazy). Repetitive leveling content is not fun. This change was made with the new goal of getting FFXIV away from being grind-centric, but the mistake was doing it before having enough alternatives in place. A few quests, two instanced dungeons, and the beginnings of the Grand Companies do not qualify as engaging leveling content. So, before we can get away from the grind, we have to... get back to the grind? Frankly, to me, this is archaic. I haven't played an MMO since FFXI that relied on undisguised grinding as the meat and potatoes of leveling, and I didn't bargain on getting back to that again. You don't grind in SW:TOR, you quest.
    4. Powerleveling. This is a large and complicated issue. I'll state right now that I'm one of the people that is against powerleveling. Changes made to the claim system in 1.19 not only made powerleveling possible, but it's out of control. And the worst part is, Yoshi-P is okay with it. Why is it being allowed? Because of the lack of leveling content. This way, the dev team only has to concentrate on endgame for the duration of 1.0. So they're willing to break an aspect of their game to 'fix' another. In SW:TOR, powerleveling doesn't happen. You have to put in the effort to progress.

So... sorry, FFXIV is getting shelved until 2.0. I'll be back to check it out. And if the above issues are addressed, I hope to stick around.

Good luck, SE. I truly hope I'm pleasantly surprised with FFXIV's direction in the future. I'm not posting the above to bash, vent, or ragequit. Just feedback that I hope the devs take to heart. I want this game to succeed, I really do. I just can't give it any more blood, sweat and tears until reboot.

The Tython noob zone in TOR has more unique content in it from level 1 to level 10 then all of FFXIV. When I say unique, I am not just referring to 'quests' but actual terrain, variation in map, area, and so forth. When I crafted my lightsaber at the forge I really took note of how much content I had already done in these few short levels compared to over a year in FFXIV. Really, I am not joking. That is just one of many noob zones to boot.

I hope 2.0 takes notice. I hope they don't rush it. I hope it comes in late because there is no way they can accomplish what needs to be accomplished in the time they have allotted. Finally I hope FF14 reboot succeeds, but the competition is stiff.
