That's not the actual caster doing the work though, is it? That's the beast they have summoned and the trailer would likely focus on the massive world-ending dragon with its fireballs than the Summoner standing in a circle, chanting and praying, to keep the beast summoned.

It's the rule of cool. Swords, guns, fists, ect, are just more cool to look at than a mage standing in a circle of power firing off lightning bolts and if previous trailers are anything to go by, SE is very much in favor of the rule of cool.

It really doesn't. Where do you see Kuja and Eiko/Garnet at the time of the conflict? Either standing in the background reveling in the madness or preying their hearts out to keep Alexander summoned.

It doesn't count at all because the fight purely focuses on Bahamut and Alexander, and not the casters/summoners.

You guys are smoking. A mage would be even more badass. Calling down a brilliance of a thousand bolts that blinds your enemies and tears their flesh asunder.

I think a Mage could look good if they take liberties with it compared to how they behave in the game. Cast Flare at an enemy, block their attack with Manawall, push them back with Scathe, zip away behind them with Aetherial Manipulation and launch a point-blank Foul. Arrows fly towards you and you freeze them in midair with Freeze. If you want melee attacks, a staff is a very technical weapon and you could have the mage do a couple of Shaolin-looking moves while weaving spells inbetween strikes with Swiftcast/Triplecast. A Summoner could have all Egis out at once doing combo attacks, culminating in a Bahamut's Deathflare.

They already do this with melee, so why not. I mean, Samurai doesn't remotely function like they showed it in trailers, they treat Hissatsu: Gyoten as a Iaijutsu in the trailers, after all. Right down to the same charge/casting sound effect. And I dream of a day Dragoon can look as acrobatic as it does in the trailers...

They should make the next main job into Paladin cause they use healing/protection magic.

Blizzard was able to make a healer (Anduin) look pretty cool in a CGI cutscene. I'm sure Square can do just as good, if not better. Would be nice to see some magic representation in the future.

After making him look and fight like a melee Paladin and only using his heal for the big inspirational overcoming-a-struggle moment.

That’s fair. Maybe they should’ve added more smiting and less melee. But, back to the topic of Final Fantasy, I think you could make a decent trailer based off Red Mage. Dual casting a few spells, jumping in for a melee kill, etc.

It doesn’t have to stay true to the gameplay mechanics, so they could even add a Black Mage slinging spells in a more dynamic and “actiony” way.
