As my Mikeru character using and leveling up the Scholar role, I had a Vault run where there is a somewhat undergeared DRK. His belt and 4 accessories were the i130 Augmented Ironworks ones, but the rest of his gear were the HQ i110 crafted tank gear.

The tank admitted that he didn't expect to get the Vault dungeon for his leveling roulette. He hesitated to start, but my teammates and I encouraged him to give it a shot.

I suggested to the DRK to rotate his defensive cooldowns because his defenses are quite low for the dungeon. As the dungeon run progressed, the DRK took my advice seriously because when he used those defensive cooldowns, the fairy and I managed to heal him while I also supplemented DPS on every mob our team encountered.

When we cleared the dungeon, I told the tank I was impressed that he used and rotated his defensive cooldowns better than several tanks I've team up with. He earned my commendation (though I did remind him to keep his promise on updating his gear).

Just had a PLD in Ala Mhigo whose only cooldowns on trash packs were Anticipation and Bulwark. No Rampart. No Sentinel. After they died due to pulling EVERYTHING and not popping anything (because why use 40% mitigation against a trash pack of 10+ mobs when you can save it for the very end for Zenos - that was the only time they used it, btw), THEN they would pop Hallowed Ground and run to pull stuff. And I'm just like "....where was that earlier?"

Of course, DPS weren't AOEing. Even after I told them to AOE.
I'm getting really tired of this.

There's one thing I'm getting tired of ; BRD not using Foes/Songs/Straight Shot. I lost count of how many BRDs I came across that didn't use their skills, aside from Heavy Shot.
Same thing for Dragoon with Heavy Trust. So rarely see it :c

After we finally completed the Hilli-questline yesterday, I have access to the mentor roulette again and am bored enough with the game, my cross stitching and life in general to go for some!
The latest one put me into Sastasha (a damn week early for the moggle-tomestones...!) with a new tank, as in: someone new to tanking, a lancer and a smn. The tank goes ahead and pulls all the bats they can find and I sigh a little - okay, this is one of the tanks that have picked up "pull as much as you can without thinking about it at all", because if they had thought about it, they'd realised that no job has any AoE in Sastasha, making big pulls pretty useless at best and at worst actually making your scholar cast a physick! I consider saying something, but brush it off as "You're way to perfectionistic when it comes to tanking and yo... Selene can heal this easly, so who cares?"
Apparently the new tank, who offers to pull even more in chat, but... doesnt when I now explain the AoE-thing to him.
All in all a nice run.
Considering it was Sastasha.
And that I didnt get any moogle-tomes because its not the 30th yet.

This happened to me several times recently so here's a rant:

People, please READ THE FREAKING CHAT! I don't know how many times I got a tank who wouldn't put on their stances, use skills to pull and get aggro and use cooldowns. Players who would ignore basic and/or important mechanics/stuff. And honestly I'm so tired of this.

Just please read the chat and say hello or answer! I'm trying to help you play better!

So I've been really getting into bard. I love its aoe capabilities and I honestly think its the funnest class to play. HOWEVER! I am so, so, so sick of every drg I run into not knowing what the chaos thrust combo is. I feel as if I am being banned from having better damage by every drg in in the df. I mention it and there hasn't been a single drg that answers. Just radio silence while I sit their crying, wanting the piercing debuff but never receiving it. Also the day I receive dragon sight, I may have a stroke from shock. I mean I'm standing right here next to you in range. Okay give that tether to the never leaving shield oath pld, I'll just mope right here while I out dps you by a metric ton.

So last night I had a fun little ShiSui run. I'm running it to level my AST (At the time 63, this run I hit 64) and, for the first time in I think a year, maybe a bit longer I get a tank who asks whether to do small or big pulls. Personally I'm good with either (and don't talk much in general in dungeons) so I just emote shrug at them, and they decide with small pulls. No big deal...they kinda seemed squishy anyways? Regardless all works out well, dps feels kinda low on the first boss but I'm not really sure if it was. Mostly because on the last trash pack before the second boss the tank ends up getting the red ball of doom and dc's shortly after we finish killing them.

So the group waits for them to come back. and waits a little longer. and a little longer. And they don't come back. Instead of kicking them or abandoning though, the MNK goes into Earth stance and becomes our new tank! its still a little bit slower then usually but being down a player is for sure the reason now AND it doesn't matter because not only do we kill the second boss, we clear the whole dungeon without the tank ever recconecting with only one death (the RDM near the start of the final boss due to drawing aggro. Needed to dump it somehow obviously.) Gave a bit of fresh air to a normal level grind.

Well, I sometimes don't even bother putting dragon sight on a ranged dps partner, because what feels like the majority of the time they just walk away from it. It's just safer to just put it on the tank who you know will always be standing in range. Especially in raids. It's also quicker to just put it on the tank by reflex rather than look over the area to see who is where. That's just me though.

Last time we had a brand new tank, and I mean someone who had no idea conceptually what a Tank is or does, we (myself and my two friends who went with) decided to tank the whole dungeon with Titan--including the boss. I felt a little bad for whoever it was, but there were little to no pulls or use of skills. I figure just getting through the dungeon on a carry was nicer than getting frustrated trying to explain basic MMO format and then a skill run-down. Also he or she didnt seem to know how to use chat because there was no response at all. Thankfully Sastasha is tank-optional and is very hard to mess up so long as at least one person is competent. But getting those kind of players is so very cringe. You want to help but good Lord where do you even start?
