You only have to do it once. If you're coming to a game that's already multiple expansions in you have to expect some grind. Yeah ARR and Pre-HW quest lines are grueling, but once that's over you'll notice it's a lot more trim.
Besides it's a great source of XP to boost up your first character so you get the armory buff for every other class. I got frustrated too but if you bunker down it can go by very quickly. If you wish watch the cutscenes on youtube and skip them in the game.
You have a lvl 63 RDM and a level 57 SCH and you haven't done Akh Afah Amphitheatre which is a lvl 50 MSQ quest? With road to 60 and a few xp items, you can keep 3 classes 6-10 levels above msq level until stormblood doing only msq and sidequests that unlock things (had to do 4 quests in ruby sea and 8 in yanxia on my alt to get to msq dungeon level). Or as a friend of mine is doing, you can hit mid 60's by the end of ARR with a couple roulettes a day and ONLY the msq.But why? =( by not going the MSQ you are also limited to only the level 50 and below quested job abilities not to mention the lvl 60 tome gear in shire
Its not just the msq either.I think it's not that there are cutscenes, but the frequency of it.
Tried to get this across in another thread, but it's just stupid that it fades into letterbox with camera movements just for like 10 lines of text.
Do 6 weekly deliveries, get a cutscene that is 'Yay you're really cool". I've been max faction with you for a year now, you can stop.

I blame the way they do their menuing system. The cutscene every time thing is just the natural progression to every npc shop menu taking full control of your ui.
14s thing is that its the most "My first videogame" of any MMO available. This might be good if its your first video game, but if youve played ANY other MMO, or any other RPG, really, the first 30 levels are awful. (Honestly, at this point you can ignore 1-60 and you'll be perfectly fine with knowing how things work by the time you're doing content thats relevant). My girlfriend has tried 2 or 3 times to get into it and just cant, because after playing 3 other MMO's, she feels like she HAS to story and level skip or shes going to be bored to death of starting the game again. Narrating the leveling of my alt "here's where i mash escape until I can do things again" may not have helped any.XIV's thing is it has a very good story, with a lot of depth and some interesting characters and some...
The biggest lie current day MMO's want to sell you is that the journey matters, not the destination. It was true in older MMO's, when new content included massive zones you could explore and were designed for all level ranges (or at times, most level ranges). Then expansions started being current level cap and above ONLY experiences and the journey stopped being relevant after a week or two, because the ONLY thing that matters is level cap content. 14 is no different. The journey doesnt matter. You arent exploring gigantic zones full of wonder. You're running from hub to hub following 3 different kinds of quest markers with the goal being to get to where you can buy a house or do 8 man content with your friends, or do 24 man content with a lot of random people.

They do not matter in current era MMO's. There is no new content added for those levels in content updates or expansions. In fact, there is usually stuff taken AWAY form those levels after an expansion or two.
14 forces people into lower level content in roulettes specifically to make sure people doing old content actually have people to do them with. Most every other mmo takes the "just dont bother doing old content unless you have a friend carry you" approach.
Sounds to me like a point in xivs favor, not the other way around. Content is still new the first time you do it.They do not matter in current era MMO's. I skip most cutscenes. I started skipping nearly all of them since roughly 2.6/2.8. My wife watches them and informs me of anything that I SHOULD view. She watches them all anyways. (i dont force her XD) The story is terrible imo. Sure its "good" for an mmo. Mmo stories as a whole are bad imo.
Its nothing compared to single player story games. (FF6/7/8/9/x/12/Chrono Trigger/Grandia/Tactics/etc)
I think talking to people who tell me exactly what i just watched is pointless and stupid. Picking up some ladies coins in Ul'Dah, was pointless and stupid. A lot of these quests ARE fetch quests. Except the Job Quests and some of the MSQ. Especially the moogle stuff. OTL Even as i finished Stormblood, I found them to be so plentiful.
I prefer things like job quest(the DRK story is good) and quests that dont gate content. I also prefer quests that do not ask me to teleport all over the place. The cutscenes dont help at all. They use generic emotes to animate them. Using better cutscenes would be a definite plus. Though that would likely mean less content made overall, per patch. Because SE likes money too much to give a little back to the game.
I actually prefer Runescape for its questing design. Much like ESO, they consists mostly of mini stories that are optional and each tells an interesting, well thought out, story. Some are intertwined with one another and some are just tales of random villagers and where their lover disappeared to, or they need to find out why the villagers are all sick, theyre hearing random noises under the church and people are constantly being attacked at night, etc.
Substance matters in story telling. Final Fantasy is a name that should never be associated with fetch quests. At one point in time, they were heralded as the series that made the most impressive games for both visuals and story. Most of the world has caught up now and honestly many have beaten XIV at this point. (ESO graphics and quests are far superior, imo. I chose XIV because ESO doesnt have chocobos or that Final Fantasy atmosphere. That and the classes and combat systems are all bad. ESO also doesnt have much to do in comparison to XIV. XIV has the better game play)

Sounds like this might not be the game for you, maybe you should try Black Desert Online or World of Warcraft, while we enjoy this game? They do not matter in current era MMO's. this is not a jrpg formula. This is an mmo quest formula with a lot more story stuffed in. Jrpg balances story with adventure, and generally has a more focused narrative, when the narrative stuff happens. Its content is also generally designed to be engaging, whereas most of the story stuff here is half baked, because the game isnt designed to have compelling single player gameplay.
