I feel for you, and you'll have a better response (maybe) from the subreddit as they aren't quite as die-hard about the whole "THIS IS A STORY DRIVEN MMO, WHAT DID YOU EXPECT??!" bs. It's an MMO, with a forced story. That's it. It's truly a shame that they ham fist it down your throat as it does turn away people (like yourself).

I skip the story myself, and I would say that if you can get past the obscene amount of MSQ items, you may find things you enjoy on the other side. Perhaps just take a break from the slog and come back to it to see if you feel any different. Just prepare yourself for a lot more of the same, at least until you're caught up on the MSQ.

You only have to do it once. If you're coming to a game that's already multiple expansions in you have to expect some grind. Yeah ARR and Pre-HW quest lines are grueling, but once that's over you'll notice it's a lot more trim.

Besides it's a great source of XP to boost up your first character so you get the armory buff for every other class. I got frustrated too but if you bunker down it can go by very quickly. If you wish watch the cutscenes on youtube and skip them in the game.

the failed logic with this is that you are denying the truth blaming everyone being a fangirl. Its an rpg with story as its number one selling point. thats like buying a book you dont wanna read. Why put yourself through it and then blame the fans and the company you didnt enjoy your time? That is considered entitlement. There are options for those wanting to skip story such as "skip cutscene" or jump potions.

But you can skip almost every cutscene in the game...is it such a horrible task to do that? It takes less than a second to skip. If even doing that is still too much grief...then play something else. The cutscenes aren't going away.

It's not bs to point out it's a story-driven game part of a series of games that for over 20 years have been known all over the world for being story-driven. Complaining about the presence of a story in a FF game is like complaining that Halo has guns.

What is bs is playing a story-driven game and then be shocked and offended that it is story-driven. Reminds me of people who play pvp games but complain that players can kill them

when you start skipping cutscenes and text, it becomes literally just busy work for no purpose. Which is how a lot people handle it, but thats not an optimal game design/user design. What you are saying is, hey man, why cant you just spend 40-80 hours literally doing nothing but running from npc to npc clicking buttons just to get past them?

What I may not have made clear is that I have no issue with the MSQ existing. I loved the story in XI, and there was far, far more of it there. Stories are a big thing to a lot of people, and I'm glad that people enjoy what XIV has to offer.

With that said, MMOs need to be able to provide a wide variety of content in order to lure the masses. Not everyone is going to want to have to do 100% of the story line just to unlock current content. I feel there are ways that SE could design the MSQ in order to keep the story intact, and to bring people to the new content (zones/battles/etc), while also not requiring a 100% clear for those who aren't that interested in the story.

As an aside, I've played Archeage for years - heavy-PvP game for those not familiar. I'm not a PvP fan at all, and I'm quite horrible at it, but I absolutely adore that game. It has so many amazing non-PvP features and systems in place that I've never had a problem enjoying my time there. Their MSQ even forces you into PvP zones in later stages (many deaths were had at this point), but just about none of the other content is tied to their MSQ and so I could continue the story when I felt up to it. The flexibility to be able to do things at your own pace is a great trait to have in an MMO.

Before that last bit gets taken out of context, no, I am not saying that XIV should completely uncouple the MSQ from the dungeons/raids/etc as it is in AA. I do however think they could rework their handling of the MSQ in order to provide a better middle ground for all players.

Let's put it this way, the Dragonsong quests in level 60 are shorter than the post-ARR quests by a mile. If you can get past the post ARR quests at level 50, then the level 60 ones shouldn't be much of an issue. For the latter, more is invested in the story and instances than the fetch quests.

As far as endgame goes, don't rush into endgame yet at this point when most are waiting for the new expansion to be released in a little over a month. If you are still playing, experiment with other roles, try side quests, and try to socialize with some people to be prepared for endgame should you choose to pursue higher-end content.

Rushing things just to get things done and try to get to higher-end content tends to burn people out to the seventh hell.

Eh... to be really fair here, Final Fantasyhas always been about it's story plots and lore. It's unfair to say SE force feeds you the story. Like that's what a good chunk of people - who play the other games- come here for. It's one thing to say you didn't like it.. but to say SE should not do what they were always known for is a bit... mean. It may be an mmo.. but at is' core it's a JRPG first with mmo aspects. You said it yourself... everything is locked behind the MSQ, to me it's no different then being locked out of endgame thur dungeons like most other mmos. But those are MMOS first... and most aren't JRPGS.

    Yikes

It's billed as a story-based MMO. You're gonna get a lot of story.

It's like going to a Harlem Globetrotters game and being really upset that they're using a ladder to make a dunk.
