Today I earned my Ridorana-Coin as a Cheerleader. Waited over 20 minute for the duty to pop up and when it did, the progress was already at the final boss with the gate closed. Seemed like someone disconnected at the last minute and I got their place as the substitute. Stood there outside of the arena, cheering and swinging glowsticks for the team.

The "get pulled into the arena" thing is only present if you are in the instance when the arena closes. If you join the duty after the arena is closed, you can only helplessly watch from the sidelines.

I believe you have to be in the instance when the gate closes to get the teleportation prompt. If the arena is already locked by the time you zone in, you don't get the ability to warp in.

Oh no, you all are probably thinking. 'cause AV is just horrible. It's the worst.

It went so perfect. Truly.

A WAR who admitted they hadn't been in the dungeon for a while, asked about bosses, waited until they had been explained before pulling, and took everything to heart and did all the mechanics as perfectly as one could hope, kept aggro beautifully, had great reaction to when extra mobs got pulled (as they do in AV). A WHM who didn't panic, had great MP management. I Mana Shifted them, but honestly, I didn't need to. I have healed AV as a WHM and it can be pretty tough, usually I'm running OOM all the time, but they were just. Mmph.

And a NIN who helped me burn things -so fast-.

You guys were lovely, and thank you for my 2 comms, though I felt they should have gone to the tank or healer.

It's another episode of "I'd rather deal with 30 minutes penalty than dummies."

Stone vigil with me as a MCH: PLD is new, with a friend SCH (I think since they came from the same server). I glance quickly at their search info and see they both are lvl 42 in their respective job so no jump potions. Then I check their gear. The horror.

SCH had no head gear and had lvl 15 pants and lvl 1 accessories. PLD had lvl 20-15 accessories and a lvl 15 shield.

PLD just ran into the first mobs without his shield oath and SCH didn't do any protect until he was reminded of it. And no matter how much me and the other DPS told the PLD to put on shield oath, he never did, as if he had deactivated chat or something.

No cooldowns, no shield lob, no flash, sometimes he would just stand there while the others were being attacked, ran into all directions like a headless chicken.

It was enough to make the other DPS quit... and I followed soon after.

I have a super unique experience that I am 100% absolutely sure that not a single FF player has ever encountered ever. This one time in a duty, the DPS couldn't do the mechanics and blamed the healer for wiping.
