My very rough Nier x XIV theory

My guess is that, like Ivalice, the Nier stuff will be adapted into FFXIV, rather than a direct connection. Given the name YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse I'm also guessing more emphasis will be placed on Nier Automata than on the first Nier or the Drakengard games. But we won't know until it comes out.

As long as its nowhere close to as depressing an ending as Drakengard and Nier it'll be good.
