We talked about that last part tho but I just wanted to point out where I heard those thoughts, the main thing I wanna talk about is do people think XIV is too cute? And why they think so.. this is mainly for people who mainly played WoW. I'm only asking this as with how BFA is alot of WoW vets are coming to XIV and they are talking. Just wanna see if what they think aabout everything comparaing both games in terms of skill, art direction and stuff.
Sounds like something a true member of the Horde would say. Not the Dravanian Horde, but the Horde.

Anyways, as someone who plays both from time to time, with a bit of an advantage to FF14 since I played it first, most of this sounds just silly.

FF XIV has never looked "cute" at any point, it's got a realistic style like most Final Fantasies, and honestly has a lot rougher set of character and gear designs than WoW. Yeah, we have Miqote and Lalafel, but the reason I attribute statements like this to Horde players is -- Alliance has literal Space Goats (Draenei), Humans and Elves with the cartooniest proportions you can imagine, and Gnomes. Horde also has Elves, super cliche Anime Edgelord zombies, and Goblins with brooklyn accents that are disturbingly cute. If any game has more of a cute factor (not that it matters, cartoony and realistic both have their charms), it would probably actually be WoW.

Gameplay skill wise, they generally feel like different tool sets achieving the same outcomes. XIV focuses a lot more on twitch gameplay, while WoW focuses a lot more on resource management and number crunching. Sometimes, you run into twitch mechs in WoW, but not near as often as here.

FFXIV could basically be desribed as a game about catgirls and 3-year-olds (Lalas) as warriors with some weird fetishes...

WoW may be cartoonish, but it's not that.

    FFXIV is absurdly cutesy.

I like FFXIV, but there are elements that can throw people who didn't grow up watching neko-based anime for a loop...

I've heard most people who haven't played FFXIV but do play WoW that WoW fights are harder... it's something of a 'mythic belief' that WoW players have that no other MMO, and occasionally some even claim few other games have combat as dynamic and challenging as WoW. It's ONLY ever stated by players that have little to no experience in other MMOs or games...

It is true for FFXIV before you hit level 50 or so. And these days also true in level 50 content because syncing is not as hard as those fights were when they were new (but a level 50 sync'd fight is still worlds better than a level 60 WoW raid that... has no syncing so you 1-shot entire rooms).

Lowbie FFXIV content is very simplistic, but it gets amazing later on...

I have never heard any of these folks say as you claim they do: that FFXIV is harder.
    - I think it's true that FFXIV is harder, but I've not heard the WoW-only crowd admit that, and I don't expect to, as they lack experience outside of their bubble.

People like Asmongold can rack up several hundred thousand views within minutes or hours of posting. If Asmongold announced he was joining FFXIV, whatever server he landed on would be the new Balmung within a day. He's got the ability to pull a huge swath of current and former WoW-players his way...

But he seems to be favoring ESO right now (been a few days since I checked though), so the WoW community is more likely to leave WoW for ESO now than for FFXIV.

I don't think he's written off FFXIV yet though. Asmongold is desperate right now to find a new game... and he's basically lashing out as he looks. He's half talking himself into things and half talking himself out.
    - He's really useful to watch if you want to understand what that community as a whole is going through right now... feeling betrayed and not knowing where to turn, and realizing that all these other choices are there, but not quite your space...

If we could get him to show a level 50 or 60 raid on his stream, as he played it... he'd be sold. But at level 1... those catgirls and lalas can be offputting if you're not used to that sort of thing (and my historic main in this game is a catgirl, this isn't me knocking FFXIV, just noting that it's a pretty strange environment for those not used to anime tropes).

As far as the harder part, Sccottzone has said it in a podcast with Momo, I'm on PS4 so I can't link sadly. But it's on Momo's channel. It's how I found him. That and I've seen it mentioned in various forums from time to time. I'm honestly shocked people are put off by the artstyle of FFXIV compared to like WoW as both to me are VERY cartoony. Yeah XIV is anime based as far as style but that's every SE game ever. I just kindof figured that was well known seeing as SE is huge and Final Fantasy is well known. But yeah I'm just overall shocked from what I'm seeing from parts of the WoW base

So, is it realistic art style or is it anime art style? I wouldn't call anime art style realistic. I'd call it cartoonish (except Japanese version of cartoon).

I don't think there's anything wrong with preferring a certain art style over another, but I do think terms like "weeb" doesn't really have any good meaning to it and when someone uses it, I don't know if they're just racist or they're too lazy to articulate what it is they actually don't like. It's fine not to like certain things, as long as it's not a matter of not liking it because it's made in this country or by this type of people.

I've been calling it an anime art style as the art is anime base. Another poster said it was more realistic but I guess comparing it to WoW's models it would be. As we're not all deformed. But going by the actual artstyles WoW has a more western look - cause it's a western game I know- so yeah.

weeb usually means "this looks anime and I don't like anime"

Such a person might consider Avatar to be weeb, even though it's an American cartoon.

To this person, XIV looks weeb.

Realistic in art does not necessarily mean a 1:1 model for reality. It means that it uses more realistic schema, like how the characters still have plausible, human proportions. Albeit it schematized in a way that is not necessarily true to life. You have to really go out of your way with the sliders and such to end up with a disproportional character.

Compare Miqote with the Draenei. You can still realistically look at a Miqote and say "Yeah, these proportions are possible." But Draenei have tiny goat legs with a massive upper body to the point that they shouldn't even be able to stand, let alone move. The unusual appearance of even lower level armor on WoW adds more and more layers of a more animated schema that FFXIV's art lacks.

That said, a lot of it comes down to differences in general design. Both have their charm overall, but I think it'd be kind of silly to accuse FFXIV of being more animated and exaggerated than WoW in any form lol.

Mind if I ask you about more info on your comment on the different playstyles? You mention XIV is more on twitch gameplay, ormally I connect twitch play to like Tera or Devil may cry. More action like games. I've never played WoW so just lost here. I'm NOT saying you're lying.. I'm more curious it be honest. I'm a nerd and like details about various video games and since noone I met actually compares the two indepth reading your comment makes me super curious. O.O GIVE ME INFO PLEASE?!!

OOOOOOH Got ya that makes more sense. Hope I didn't offend, I was just lookign at the base artstyles from like posters or designs .. not so much the game models. But yeah I see where you're coming from now.
