It was something that "we wanted" to stop the "over inflated prices" created by people selling houses. We as players can actually give really great feedback on what works and what doesn't and come up with ideas that we think can truly help make this a better game for all.
While complaints can help the team by bringing issues to light, if you complain about something then add a few ways that it might be possible to fix the problem, you're helping the team come up with ideas. Not all of the ideas may be possible, but helping to create a solution should be something we strive towards when giving feedback.
Looking at the first page of the housing forums, we have a thread that's almost 230 pages long of ideas to help make housing better (items we'd like to see, changes to the system, more items indoors/ outdoors, things we want dyeable, etc.). While not even close to all of those things have made it into the game, we've definitely gotten quite a few (hello lofts, stairs, sink, double item slots, tons of furnishings made dyeable, and that's off the top of my head).
Even if we pay to play the game while they get paid to make it, wouldn't it be great if some of the ways to make it better actually came from us?
