Its possible they are trying to unload massive amounts of gil they made over the past year before the game starts its sub fees. They might actually think the game WILL die with sub fees and are trying to offload as much gil as they can before the ship sinks.
I have 8 crafts at 50. All I did was watch T.V. and spam standard for easy mode synths. Enjoy leveling those crafts in 1.19 and beyond everyone!

the game is free so they can make plenty of profit without paying any subs for all those characters....it only makes sense to do it. If they stay after the charge, then thats a different story.

I posted these numbers in another post in regards total player count and server population;
If you go to ffxivpro.com and check player achievements under the linkshell menu and compare ls member scores, you will notice that a mule char with 50 achievement points is ranked between 16,000 and 21,000 (depending on your server) and under overall rank probably 300,000-315,000.
This just goes to point out there are roughly 315,000 characters spread over the 18 servers = 17,500 or so characters per server. That is a pretty good sum of characters per server.
I know its free so there most certainly are lots of mules and i knjow many hardcore players are dual boxing more than one account on the same server. So even if you divide the number of characters per server by 2 (1 main+1mule per human player0 that leaves ever server with 17k-18k characters = 9k main chars+9k alts/mules = 9,000 human player/subscribers per server.
300K characters/by 2/3 chars per human = 100-150,000 PC subscribers total
150,000 subscribers x 15$ = $2,250,000 per month x 12 months = $27,000,000 annual subscriber revenue
Now lets say by the time PS3 and FFXIV 2.0 comes out sales are strong. If SE can multiply the player base by 10, meaning 1,000,000-1,500,000 players spread over 18 servers or 20 assuming they add a couple, thats 50,000 players per server. I know these are numbers that the CEOs are probably praying for but the point was that the current player base still could generate SE 27mil in profits. If they increase their player base with PS3 and 2.0 all the better for them.
Of course these numbers could be full of shit and i could be entirely wrong. But i can only rely on the numbers that ffxipro presents seeing as SE hasnt yet implemented a /sea all function.
As for the gil sellers, most certainly they are profiting off of players who are putting 10 bucks a month into gil instead of a monthly sub fee seeing as the game is free. Hopefully a subscription fee will decrease RMT in that ppl that are currently buying gil wil be discouraged since they will need to pay for the game soon too...
Just my 2gil guys. Lemme know what you think of the numbers. I really just made rough math out of it.

^ you do realize those achievements from the start of the game, so everyone who made a character (or multi) from day one are listed. so like 500K+ people bought the game....do you think even 1/10 of them are even playing?

exactly that just means since the game released 315k people played the game long enough to make any achievement at all. we already know that we lost the vast majority of players in the mass exodus late last year. those players are still counted even though most of them have probably not even signed in since then.
it also counts the massive amount of people with not only 1 mule, but multiples. i know in my small ls alone that at least 15 mules are being deleted that have at least 1 class over 20. those mules are counted also.
