I've lost count of how many times I've done that. Then when I think I'm happy, I've ended up going to places with some really ugly lighting conditions in the Heavensward areas and beyond, and started to regret my choice. It happened to me yesterday, during a thunderstorm in Rhalger's Reach. Some of the lighting in newer areas is super fugly at times and unfortunately a newly created alt cannot go there to test it out.

I'm not sure why you need to worry about basing your character design on how they might look in one specific weather condition in a specific zone. You can never control for that. It might affect every single character equally.

Some lighting does just make characters look awful, no exceptions.

To me it matters. I end up in multiple terrible looking zones everyday and they bother me greatly, so I like to minimize my annoyance if I can.

In general that's a good baseline... but it doesn't help if you also want to see how gear from old quest rewards, raids, high end tomestones, or items in your armoire might look on your character after you've made it. It would be nice to even be able to keep gear equipped while your reskinning your character, and if you're wearing something the new one can't wear because of gender lock, the item just goes invisible.

Might be worth a shot. Everything I end up doing in-game appears to be either (1) when it is raining or (2) at night or (3) both.

SE makes way to much profit out of it.

I guess I am the weird one to think this behaviour of certain people is weird.

    GCBTW.
Hah! I know what you mean! I will never understand how people have no principles or taste that settles. The only things I changed was my hair and eye colour when I slowly transisted from archer to black mage. I put my wild, blonde hair into the Papalymo hairdo and my eyes became red. Later, as my Lalafell aged a bit, I added the white portions to the hair to reflect that.

Before I left for my 4-year hiatus, I was in charge of keeping our Lalafell-only linkshell "clean" by browsing Lodestone mugshots and remove Non-Lalafell. It was baffling how many people changed back and forth, sometimes so quick that I removed them because the Lodestone did not refresh their mugshots as quickly as they used Phantasias.

I am always a midget. Yordles, Lalafell, Asura, Mascu, Goblin. Why would I suddenly want to turn into something else and pay for that?!

Absolutely strange. These are probably the same people that want to bail from contracts or pricey purchases. As I work in retail, it just makes my eyes roll when they return perfectly fine, un-opened appliances because "they changed their mind".....

    Sincerely,

I know I plan to use a Fantasia (still have the one I got from Heavensward) but I do agree its a bit of greedy to not offer 1 as they know a fair amount of people will swap to one of the two new races, even if its only temporarily.

I changed my character lightning to 100 and gamma to 60 a month ago and since I haven't been bothered by my character's look. Might want to give it a try.

I can't say for all, but I used fantasia few times and can explain for myself. 1st time I used fantasia I did it to change my Miqo'te face, because wanted to make him older than he was in the start. But I changed races later, too. Sometimes you just want to try something fresh. Sometimes you start to wonder what if other race will suit you better with emotes and poses. I played as male Elezen for a short time and as male Au Ra for one year, but in the end returned to male Miqo'te because he suits me more. I tried to change my character to female twice, cause I'm female irl, but... in the end... just no. Maybe because I didn't play with female characters in MMO for 10 years, or maybe because of something else, I can't play them here, so I gave up on this idea. For now I don't plan use fantasia again because there is nothing what suits me more than male Miqo'te, but if suddenly in future they will add something and it will touch me in a way "yes, this is me" - I will use fantasia then.
