Its a side event that you can participate in. For example, if you dont do any of omega, nothing in the MSQ changes. It still shows up, does its thing, then goes and crashes somewhere. The MSQ proceeds regardless of those events cause Omega weapon is a separate side story. Even so, if it does have impact, it was limited, which is fine. Im not saying MSQ is perfect, but that doesnt mean we should say screw it and not care all together. Again, this isnt a zero sum game. Theres nuance here.
what you dont seem to get, is the people who want to skip msq, dont care.

You arent going to make people who dont care, care. And i dont know why you want to force them to waste time and energy skipping through it when they dont care

your premise is msq is why people play this game, and thats why you can't see whats going on. Many people dont play the game for msq, they play it for the jobs, the dungeons, the world, the community, the flavor. For them the msq can be an impediment to these other things.

if the game was mostly about being a single player rpg with co op, what you are saying would make sense, but its not. Its an MMOrpg, which means its main focus is having a massive multiplayer experience with rpg elements. RPG being taking on a charachter evolving that charachter and exploring the world

as far as 1.0 story?

1.0 explains and introduces many things important in ARR, primals, the echo, many main charachters, the garlean conflict. The coil goes more into story which ties into heavensward, dragons, primals, and the allagan empire.

its kind of odd to claim 1.0 is irrelevant, but for some reason ARR is of utmost importance.
