ive said this in a couple other "we aint really summoners give us real summons threads" (these happen alot)
    they can keep the egi
but just have to change the OGCD to be Summon theme
    Fester gets a titan theme
bane gets a wind theme like Garuda
Shadow flare is a water bubble for leviathan
pain flare lightning theme like Ramuh
    Etc etc

and change the battle stance emote to the SMN opening there book and all these silhouettes of summons fly out

What you're asking for is essentially the core problem for "summoners." In their behaviour, summons aren't much more then big bursty actions or DoTs. It's just that their visual effects are much more demanding, both client side and to design. You need a fully modelled NPC with animations, in addition to your general spell effects.

You could even imagine the current BRD as summoner: Each ballad is a unique summon, and whatever special actions becomes available during the ballad is the summons unique attack.

Summoner is an art-style choice, not a gameplay choice.

So, I said this back in 2.0. The excuse for graphical demand is hilarious considering FFXI summoner was able to function on a PS2 and we have Chocobo's that are basically more demanding than any Egi, plus there can, and has, been several dozen clustered in a single spot.

If FFXI could do it, FFXIV can without fail, but it just doesn't seem to be their objective. The only issue they've ever stated that I bought was how they could introduce new Egi after having Eos/Selene, Ifrit, Titan and Garuda fulfill the trinity. In truth, they can't but then, glamours/skins would solve the dispute most had anyway. No one wanted Carbuncle recolors as the sole glamour. We wanted new Egis since actual good looking summons were shot down before the question was even raised.

If they are worried about persistent summons they can do timers. FFXI did MP draining as a form of a timer. PvP currently does real timers, and then so does Bahamut. I don't think having a summon being basically a second auto attack (or primary since as a smn you aren't in range for your auto) is the best method just so you feel awesome as a person rather than just some guy standing behind a hero on a leash.

I loved Summoner in FFXI, I abandoned it in FFXIV because I couldn't get over how awful Egis both look and feel. Hell, they could have skins scale based on player height like Chocobo's already do, or give adjustment options.

Also, why did we lose Choco Meteor on our Chocobo's?!

Avatars in FFXI were RIDICULOUSLY low-res. Titan, for instance, had rectangular forearms. They were big, true, and they looked just like the Prime versions - but that's because the Prime versions were also ridiculously low-res. Also, FFXI's Avatars WERE visually obstructive, and I can remember cases where this was actually abused, such as Summoners filling the the Boyahda Tree with Titans to make it harder to tell when Aquarius had popped (this was back when Aquarius still dropped Damascene Cloth, which sold for a mint).

Egi's are much higher-res than FFXI's Avatars were, but still much lower-res than the Primals they're based on. As abstract, geometric figures, they're passable - but if they tried to make them look like the Primals they're based on, but with the same polygon count, they'd look awful.

I see this being more of a thing for the expansion after Shadowbringers since there's a good chance that they'll raise the bar on performance requirements like they did back in Heavensward. I'm pretty sure that it's more or less dictated by when PS5 will release and how soon they can put the game on it, since they'd have to phase out the PS4 like they did with the PS3 in order to raise the minimum requirements.

Did you know that the carbuncle model is based on the carbuncle model of FFXI ? It should be telling it is the only summon (baring the fairy) that doesn't look ridiculous.

All I know is that I want demi-bahamut to be galmourable. I want a giant carbuncle to nuke my foes.
