yeah... and you know how long that took them? 10 years. yes, the original engine is from 2001 and the transmog system was implemented in december 2011. That's actually almost 11 years.

How dare SE not figure their stuff out in a shorter timeframe than the all mighty gods at Blizz.

Look. I too want more inventory space and glam plates but you have to admit no one knows how bad is the coding. The thing that annoys me is how people act like they know better than the devs who work with said code because they have X Y Z experience with stuff that may or may not be similar. Because clearly everything works the same way. Just... stop. Things are not black and white.

Things suck right now but we need to keep asking so they realize how important this is to the community. It would help if some people would drop the condescending attitude.

You think it took 10 years for them to do that? That people worked on that for 10 years?

No. It took ten years for it to make the top of the list. Why do people have a hard time understanding that?

I don't know.. why do people say things like "it would be so easy... " when they have no knowledge of the actual work involved?

It's not easy. Definitely not. But just because it isn't easy doesn't mean it isn't necessary.

Their current systems design is so completely pants-on-head I'm amazed the servers don't burst into flames at random intervals.

Easy compared to a ten year project? Yes.

I mean yeah, redesigning the glamour plates could be challenging, but that doesn't mean it'll take them an entire decade. This isn't a binary issue- either it's as easy as editing a single text block to correct a spelling error or it's so difficult that it'd take a team of software engineers 20 years of constant coding!

There is such a thing as middle ground. Hell, I do challenging things at my job as a Biomedical Electronics Tech every damn day, but I do it! And it doesn't take me 10 years. Life isn't binary. People can do challenging tasks in under a year!

"No, that task falls under challenging... We'll have to pass on that."
See how long a company stays in business with that attitude.

Square Enix has more money than Blizard. And 2001 code is much more ancient and harder to work with then what? 2011? When the original 1.0 released? And they already rebooted the code a bit for 2.0.

Sure there's a middle ground. I'm not claiming they're refusing on the grounds it's too difficult though. I'm saying evidence points toward it being more trouble than it's worth to the company and costlier in more terms than just labor and staff time.

The idea that one companies older code is more difficult to work with than another companies code that was outsourced AND rushed AND redone in a rush again shows , again, a certain level of misconception and unsound logic that needs to be pointed out.
If blizzards original code was written to be more flexible and/or easier to add on to, it would present far less trouble in the future when such things were added in. Not that I'm sure either way, but just because something is older doesn't mean it's harder to work with.

Whether it's easy or hard, that's not my concern. My concern is it needs to happen. Square Enix are big boy programmers with decades of experience. They can figure it out.

To be fair, Blizzard used WC3 as a base and had 3 years just to make WoW's engine. From what Yoshida has said, ARR had to be built from the ground up in something like 2 years.

Anyway, I suspect the actual reason is that the XIV team is under strict regulation regarding quarterly returns(considering Square leans on its income a lot to fund other projects), and time spent working on coding updates to inventory in general is time that eats into the content cycle they've worked out.

Yeah, I'd like to see them increase max glamour items to something like 500. Wouldn't mind another tab or two of plates either (1 or 2 extra sets of 10 glamour plates).
