Proposal to Improve the Hunt System / ハントシステムを改善するための提案

Despite the many differing opinions on the hunt system of FFXIV, it is clear that many believe it is a system in need of improvement.

With the addition of the world visit system, hunting has gained new obstacles as well.

In order to improve the hunt system for all players, I propose that the Final Fantasy XIV development team does some or all of the following.

Add a timer to hunts that begins when a hunt is found, clicked on, and confirmed by the finder.
The timer (about 5-10 minutes should be good, even for large map areas), would prevent anyone from engaging the hunt until it ends. When the timer does end, the hunt is free-for-all, and any player can attack.
A hunter confirming the hunt could also trigger a server wide (or data center wide) notification that automatically notifies players of the hunt. These notifications would appear only in a chat channel for hunts (like /say or /shout) and could be disabled and/or filtered out by players in their settings.
Thanks to the notifications and timer, all players would have ample opportunities to join in on hunts.
In addition, the difficulty of hunts could be increased, a level sync feature could be added, or a feature similar to scaling of battles for groups in Eureka could be added, so that more players have an opportunity to get a hit in before large groups kill the hunt too quickly.

Much of this is a good idea! With cross-world travel, we currently rely on outside websites to track hunts, and the pace has become increasingly quick, making it hard to track all hunts on multiple worlds. It would be great to track hunts in-game across a data center. I'm not quite sure how I feel about the "preventing people to pull until 5-10 minutes have passed from when the hunt is discovered," but a hunt chat channel notifying the world when a hunt has been discovered would be helpful.

The problem with not scaling mob health or making hunts invulnerable for a short period is that the hunts can be killed before other hunters can even arrive, even if they are immediately notified. On Crystal DC, we are having a problem with some hunters that immediately pull as soon as they are in range of an S rank, and they use a third party program to be immediately notified when the hunt is available. That leads to situations like one that I saw last night, where a group of hunters spawned Nuny and one of the group didn't even make it across the map to the spawn before it was dead because it was instantly pulled and killed.

Edited to add: I personally think that people who put in the effort to spawn a hunt, especially when the effort can be considerable (like Nuny) should be rewarded for their effort and allowed to get credit for their work.

I like the idea of a server wide notification on the chat box and the 5minute wait before anyone can engage. Hope SE reads it and implements it. Maybe add Peerless Hunt Clan Book as a possible drop as well lol.

    Agreed!

I like the idea of a hunt timer and server wide notification. Especially if it's something that's able to be toggled on and off.

10 minutes would be a ridiculous amount of time to wait for a hunt to unlock.

Honestly... It sounds as though the Hunt System needs a complete rework.

Like, we're talking about things that are randomly found throughout a zone and spawn on extremely long timers (With S ranks being specifically spawned)

With the idea of trying to fix the issue of ninja-pulls before people from across the entire game can teleport to the zone to come and pick up their reward.

Since, literally, at this point, you may as well just give people their seals every 5-12 hours just for being logged into the game. Since that's what all the "Fixes" seem to try and cater for, things like global announcements and long grace periods to prevent ninja-pulls. It's all just designed to let anyone, irregardless of where they are in the game, find every single Hunt and then get there in time for their reward.

I'm sure there could be entirely different systems created that would you know... Make actually participating in Hunting something actually give the reward? Instead of turning the entire thing into a participation trophy because it doesn't matter where you're AFKing you can teleport and fly over to every Hunt like there isn't even a point to them being "Randomly" spawned...

The entire system does need a rework. As it stands, anyone could go and completely hunt every A rank in every server without letting anyone know it was killed. Most people use third party timers to keep track but even then, that system isn't perfect and most of the time, people kill without reporting anyways. It's always frustrating. The worst is when you find one, or spawn, you announce it, and then some random comes in a kills before most people even arrive :< Spend hours just for it to die in seconds.

Bless. This is always my biggest issue with most hunt “improvement” proposals here. Making annoyingly long timers and server announcements rewards everyone but the hunters.

I mean, hunts are and always have been a participation trophy. You do work, spawn hunt, or find it, and you get credit. It doesn't really take "skill" to kill them beyond amassing enough people there to kill the mob. I don't think anyone is proposing just giving out seals to people for being logged in - you don't have to go do hunts anymore than you have to do PvP to get Garo gear, fish to get titles, etc. But making it so that people who put in effort to spawn and locate hunts get credit seems like a fair goal, don't you think?
