The middle one imo is a bit too bulky and broad. The first is muscular while still having a comparable physique to the females.
Could take or leave the shorter ears.

I'm with you, although in that particular picture, the head seem to be taking on Elezen proportions. Could just be the angle/hairstyle used.

I think it's the angle/hairstyle, the other males heads don't seem to be as squished, but appear to be the same size as the first one. I think the line created by the hair flowing down the neck, to the back, is creating an illusion that makes it look like his head comes to a point from the shoulder.
