All housing items lost on server transfer?

I recently took the free transfer off of my home server to another server, to stay on my old datacenter. I was told that in order to actually get the payback for my house on transferring servers, I should keep my house on my plot, and that as long as my house had green checkmarks in the relocation status section (housing items placed + storeroom space) I would be able to move to the new server without any issue.

When I transferred, I was refunded the gil as expected, but I just managed to get a house, and looked at my storerooms, and... it was completely empty. Did I need to remove my house (which I thought would cause me to not get paid back for the house's price)? Am I just screwed? All I have is a few trees in my inventory from when I cleared out my yard to get my house's outside item limit to a check mark.

Sounds like I was supposed to squirrel everything away into my inventory+retainers first, which seems... a bit silly, when there's an NPC that exists to sell you back your items when your house is demolished, but oh well. Guess I just have to buy all my non-seasonal stuff back from the MB.

It seems you may have mixed up information about plot relocation (moving from one plot to another on the same world) with transferring servers. Unfortunately when transferring servers, your property and anything inside it are terminated.

Probably. Still feels a bit bad though since apparently the resident reclaimer NPC holds your furnishings for a certain amount of time if your house gets demolished, which is basically what xferring is doing, but I guess since it's not the exact same process they don't make the NPC bother holding your items.

The reclaimer NPC that would logically have held your furnishings is the one on the world you left..... But since you just left that world there is little point in him holding onto the stuff.

You don't, it's automatically deposited into your currency.
