Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

When the missing genders are released, I'd rather they were well done than haphazardly thrown together just for the sake of releasing them. When I mentioned pulling a Yugiri and having a "disguised" m!Viera/f!Hrothgar using a modified skeleton, I meant as a placeholder until they're complete, not really that they make that the released gender's model. Realistically speaking, if there are no assets made for them now it will take at least a year to make, given designing (can use the concept art as a base for Viera, or female ronso as a base in the case of Hroths), modeling, playtesting, debugging, fitting every armor set to cull clipping issues... and that's considering they have people working on it full-time instead of spread out in other content (dungeon and raid armor sets, for example, and pulling double duty as they could be working them to fit the future genders meanwhile)

I have a preference for an elezen or Au Ra body-type (either a middle point or a wide enough muscle mass slider to allow both) but that's neither here nor there except they could use those as a base to work off

I believe DRG is also quite rare. Although some of those jobs are becoming a bit less exclusive now, as you say they're rarer than male Viera would ever be, and particularly WHM. It's really not the issue people make it out to be, and male mooncats have similar lore anyway. When pushed, Yoshi mentioned it was a resource issue, so the lore thing is pretty much beside the point at this stage.

DRG are in a very weird spot Lore-wise, in that it's MENTIONED that there's several other DRGs and the whole thing is an order but there's only ever one Azure Dragoon...until we come along and share the title with Estinien... Gameplay-wise we only see Estinien and that other DRG in the 50-60 quests, plus the nameless Dragoons in the HW trailer. AST is supposedly also quite rare in Eorzea/Othard but not to the extent of WHM (only one non-Padjali) or SCH (only one non-Tonberry...only one since the Tons apparently can't use their SCH powers anymore)

I'd rather wait than get a model with the most basic of edits, which could be replicated by just playing Elezen or Midlander with bunny ears.

We also have to consider that they want to see through more comprehensive graphics updates, particularly regarding their existing assets which need to be converted to high res textures - they've yet to commit to it or confirm they're doing it but it's something they would like to do alongside improvements to the graphics system. 6.0 is likely when the spec will go up, and it would make for a big selling point for a game that has yet to peak. The last thing I'd want them to do is put aside overall improvements to the textures and graphics engine in order to rush out male Viera and female Hrothgar. I'd rather wait for a more comprehensive upgrade, if one is in the cards.

This is true. Though in regards to higher quality textures, it is incredibly common for artists to create textures that are at least double the scale of the intended asset. They save the texture (diffuse map) off in that higher quality state and then simply just compress it down to the required scale, which of course lowers the quality. However it means that it is incredibly likely that the devs have the higher quality textures already archived ready for implementation, should a graphics update appear that could support them all.

I don't think anyone would expect them to have male viera or female hrothgar ready by 5.0 or during 5.x. I think people are just wanting to hear they them say they "will" add them to the game in the future.

Alright so I think I got an idea of why u don't mind waiting. That being said, I do mind waiting for 2 full years to get what we were promised 5 years back and even more waiting for more than 1 month to even get a response. I do expect them to release them through 5.x maybe not 5.1 or 5.2 but SE prioritizes money over anything else and male Viera is one of the things that'd make them the most money

You'd think so, but their interview on the topic indicated otherwise. Had they done what you suggested, it'd be a much more straightforward affair.

It takes alot of effort to make a race and no sense rushing it ,
I really dont expect them till 7.0 and if they are not in by then really when ill questions "where are they" or "whats the deal".

They were never promised to us and there reasoning is fine viera and beast race to please as much people as they could.

It's better to support the devs and the inclusion of M viera and F hroth instead of demand for them right away.

since I think its exremely unfair that they now tell us to wait for 2 hole years (which is a LOT, lets be honest lol) to give us something that they had already promised us on 1.0, so why would you be okay with waiting?

Because I am familiar with corporate pipelines in the entertainment/animation industry through my job. Don't get me wrong, I want both genders for Viera and have been quite vocal across pretty much every megathread involving Viera since HW. It is not feasible for devs to work on everything they have to work on on top of going from concept to player ready for two entirely new races (which is basically what the missing genders would be) by 5.1 or even 5.3. Think about it. 5.1 will be approx 3.5 to 4 months after 5.0's launch assuming the team does not get an extended vacation. While there are no doubt teams working on the .x content, we're 2ish months out of early launch and its crunch time for finishing the 5.0 final build. Across interviews and fanfest explanations they have said that they started female Viera around 4.1 to get Fran done in time and Fran is an NPC with limited animations, a fixed hairstyle, and a fixed outfit. It took longer than 3.5-4 months to make Fran. We aren't going to be able to use all helms at 5.0 for the two genders we are getting because for one reason or another they're not done.

Two years feels like a long time for players to wait again I've been waiting since HW /playdead but it is unfortunately (for players, at least) a realistic timeframe for a pair of new playable genders.

I would say i am used to it being that i have waited for:
Versus XIII that became FFXV
KH3
P5
Port of Mother 3
Skyrim
Male Viera since ffXII

so whats a few more years to the waiting so long as they come and look as good as the females polish wise
