Indeed, its funny that the DC split tonight causing our entire cwls to be 50/50 split off re ignited everything that happened in that video, again, yearsss later. Honestly wouldnt have been surprised if they gave us a cgi for the split tonight.

I spent days learning of 1.0's history through a couple of youtube channels several months back. I literally teared up looking at all of it because I am empathetic to a fault. I even created a thread asking legacy players to show me some screenshots of things like the great gobbue wall, the descension of Dalamud, and their legacy tattoos and chocobos. I also wanted to thank them all for their devotion to the game.

I'm aware of how bad it was. So bad Yoshi dropped a moon on it. But I really wish I could have been part of it. Those kind of nostalgic memories are some of the most precious things anyone can own.

This is why I like Square Enix and FFXIV. I migrated from ESO, which was my first mmo. I left that game for many reasons. Most of the reasons were related to bad gameplay and an obnoxious cash shop. (I mean, people complain about the Mog Station all the time, but at least it's a dedicated website and isn't advertising to you in-game!) The main reason, however, was that the team behind that game would never fix anything. From horse animation bugs to asset loading glitches to flickering assets/models flying around the screen to actual exploits, there are issues in that game that have been around for years.

What does all of this have to to with FFXIV? Simple: if people like Zenimax had possession of FFXIV 1.x, they would have just continued it and slapped numerous band-aids on it.

Square Enix, on the other hand, dropped a moon on it and re-wrote it from scratch.

That was a good decision.
