I disagree. I despise the current moogle fight music and think it should be remade with electric guitars, with the guitarists busting out virtuoso level solos every 30 seconds. I don't think that's unreasonable at all.

The Moogle music fits the fight. It's cute, weird, and totally insane all at the same time.
All I hear is annoying, annoying and annoying. Do electric guitars not fit crazy battles?
Anything's possible with the electric guitar.
...What? Is it Archaic to western developers? (Serious question, because I've never heard of anything both gaming and TV related when it comes to composing as being an outdated style to write music for situations.)
Also while in development you're generally given an idea then you compose to it -- If it doesn't turn out fitting it's not due to the composer, it's due to the fact from concept > Alpha > final was a very different route. For example Metal Gear Solid's Music, do you honestly believe that music was just composed on the fly without being told:
"Ok, for Metal Gear Rex fight, you'll be in a struggle in your mind finding out for certain the cyborg ninja is Gray Fox, and he's currently trapped by Liquid Snake (whom is your brother due to cloning) and Fox is in the last moments of his life."
This is why music is normally composed to fit the situation or game theme (Secret of Mana for example) -- You don't sit there and compos up 90 tracks of whatever the hell you want and hope they can find somewhere to put it, but you say it's archaic to do it to fit style or situation, so I honestly wonder if it's just yet another disconnect Japanese developers have with western developers -- which would explain why some western MMOs have music (if they even have more than 4 tracks at a time) that seem to just be a random mishmash of arrangements.
I actually prefer how the old ones were done.
The new ones to me are more situational.. I'm all for more being added especially the GC style ones.
But id prefer to keep a lot of the more atmospheric and relaxed tracks in areas they work for an even add to them.
Or actually in 2.0 have a player, like the one in EvE so we can select tracks that we like/groups of tracks we like or just let it roll, as this would give everyone the choice an control to make everyone happy.
An yes EvE has sound! sometimes..
Or they could have...I dunno...not made their music files so complicated to swap out?
I think the only problem with this is it was the same way when XI was released in 2002/2003, had to wait for a program to convert to the filetype, no one is really making programs for XIV lol. They could have went with vorbis/ogg kind of like what Ys PC games does (loops better as well, and easier to change.)
Rock influenced songs in Final Fantasy? never happened at all. It's not like there are several rock themes all over the series, in both new and old games. Surely not..Um....No, speak for your damn self. A lot of the original music is awesome. One of the only things they got right on release.
Fortunatly, the new music continues to be equally awesome (Moogle Fight is just plain magical) so I say leave them to their own devices with the music, they know what they are doing there.
EDIT: The people saying that "rocky" battle themes don't fit Final Fantasy must have not played a FF game in a long time.
I do concede on XIV they went to the obvious guitar riffs everywhere for the battle themes, tho.. Doesn't mean they aren't awesome.
And no, you can't ride this chocobo.
