I mean genetics are really silly as just as long as one person has passed down a gene that codes for something and it's switched to the show this gene then you can get that one rare redhead or blonde in a family that has almost brown or black hair. All because great great great grandpa joe was the doesn't come up often hair color. I mean it's obvious they take after their mother which seems like we've never seen? I mean look at Fordola she's fairly pale skinned vs Rahubaun yet both are Ala Mhigan.

    Could also be she's adopted.

Skin colour is a bit 'all over the place' in this game. Most noticably to me in Ishgard, where most of the Elezen are pale-skinned (including every "town NPC" I could find) but then a few specific characters are quite dark. And more generally, there just seems to be such a wide variety of skin colours within a population. Perhaps if we tended to see more related people, it might show more of a pattern, but overall it seems a bit odd. I have to wonder if they just hit the 'randomise' button on the character creator and see what comes out of it.

But Lyse was able to pull off looking like her sister. So, I doubt it. Anyway to use another fictional character look at Sansa Stark if you didn't know that one of her parents was a read head you'd think she was adopted as all of the other Stark children and their father have black or brown hair. Even her uncle has black hair. I mean there are very short people who have very tall children, people who don't look mostly like one side of their family but look like exact copies of the other side. I mean heck look at some offspring of white slave owners and their slaves where there was enough that were mistaken for being a white person until it gets pointed out that one of the parents wasn't white.

In the first all the races are known by a different name. The Hrothgar are called Ronsos there, so technically in XIV they are one and the same. I agree they probably won't get as tall. Though Yoshi said that if the Hrothgar stood up straight they would be taller than Roegadyns.

So they're both adopted then. Also Eorzea is flat. Try and stop me! :P

Though I'm not trying to discount your point that sometimes biology just goes "this gene, it hasn't been used in a while let's use it" and then the dad is like "..uh.. Karen..... do you think we can have an aether test.. no particular reason..". lol

I was just adding another reason why it isn't that weird they could look different (adopting twins for example is not unheard of irl).

Now that we know the Hrothgar are from northern Ilsabard, their outfits seem very climate-inappropriate. Unless they're all hardcore "sure I'll be fine in a blizzard in this loincloth and sandals", I really don't think that's what they should be wearing.

(Unless, I suppose, that's what they wear once they come down out of the mountains and feel like they're overheating on what we'd consider a cool day...)

I think there's an important distinction here though.

Viera are Viera pulled pretty much directly from FF XII, so they're called Viera. We wouldn't expect much to be different about them other than the specifics they have to tweak because of the change in setting.

Hrothgar are called Ronso in the First but I think this is more a nod to them being based on the ronso, but they'll be taking their society and culture in different directions so they didn't want to just flat out call them Ronso have give people preconceived notions as to what to expect from them. It's been a while since I played FF X but I don't think the Ronsos there developed gunblades or had a queen for example.

So I think it's more or less 'viera are lifted from FF XII, Hrothgar are inspired by Ronso but aren't actually ronso.' With the ones on the First being called ronso as a nod to the inspiration for hrothgar.

They're fro the southern part of it, it may not be as cold there potentially. Or maybe their fur protects them from the cold?

Come to think of it though I don't recall any au ra in the Steppes using the au ra starting gear so who knows.

True, and that's rather disappointing to me. I would have thought they'd at least use pieces of it for a few of the tribes.

Doubly so when the lorebook describes it as their traditional dress, with specific features that are important to them, and then we never see a single Auri NPC wearing any of it.
