Ah, I was confusing him with the fairies. And probably Warmech. Come to think of it, IX's regular battle theme isn't actually involved in that questline at all, but it's definitely used in Wiping City because of Ozma...
あっきれた。
IX isn't used much in general, which is unfortunate. I think it's just Ozma, the Prima Vista, and the Tantalus set.
And Vivi for Hildibrand.
IX is my favorite one so I would absolutely adore more being pulled from it.
If you have trouble following the Ivalice story just wait for the YoRHa one. With Yoko Taro involved you'll probably have to play through multiple endings, watch a stage play or two, and d a lot of reading in and out of game to get the entire story.
You say that, but what if in the ultimate irony twist he decides to make it so that the WoL, being the WoL, can actually act as deux ex machina and put EVERYTHING right. Just fix everything. And not fix things for a "hydealyn version of the Nier universe", but fix everything for the ACTUAL Nier unverse, or at least the androids. What? You got the gestalts over on the moon? We got you FAM! We´ll just whip up clone bodies (yorha and allaghan tech) and maybe ask mama hydaelyn if she can do us a solid and hand wave getting those gestalts to go into the new bodies, and somehow it all works out. Why? Because we are the WoL! Oh btw, when you go help them out, you dont help them out in Hydaelyn or any of the shards, you use a portal to earth. Why? same as before, because you´re the WoL!! There, a FF tittle actually taking place in earth lol!
If that wouldnt be the ultimate twist to play on everyone I cant imagine what would be. Everyone is expecting sad androids and a hopeless story, blah, blah, blah, etc, etc, etc. So the twist is that we get something totally different, practically a caricature crossed with bad fanfic lol.
What a waste of a raid series that would be.You say that, but what if in the ultimate irony twist he decides to make it so that the WoL, being the WoL, can actually act as deux ex machina and put EVERYTHING right. -Yoko Taro, 2018“NieR: Automata which released in 2017 became a hit and I got plenty of work because of its aftermath, but that won’t last forever. Therefore, I believe my downfall will start around 2019, and since it would be lonely to die alone, I’m going to try taking down as many people with me.”
There is a nice video all about Final Fantasy Tactics here

that really sums up the story and might fill in some of those plot holes. It's also good to remember that Ivalice is the world setting for both FFT and FFXII. I didn't get much of FFXII's references to this new 24 man raid, as it seems VERY heavily influenced by FFT (with the exception of Ridorana Lighthouse) but even that has more FFT influences than it does FFXII. I hope this helps you further enjoy your experiences in FFXIV.
"Nothing is true, Everything is permitted."
That's because Square loves to put names/terms from older games in their new games, like Zodiac Braves and Auracites, or like in the ARR smn quest, where Tristan summoned a big, purple Ifrit Egi and called is Belias. And than it gets hard to differ "Is this now related somehow, or is it just a reference?"
The Ivalice storyline was indeed a bit confusing, especially if you, like me, never played FFT or FF12 (which I am doing right now).
Ivalice, Rabanastre and everything just seemed to come out of nowhere and there where multiple persons/things that had the same names, like past Ramza and current Ramza (this confused me quite a few times), or the term "Zodiac Braves", that never were fully explained.
NPC:"Of course! The Story of the Zodiac Braves! Everyone knows about them!"
Me:"I don't. Is it about the guys, who we did the Relic Weapon Quests?"
NPC:"Oh no! They are totally different from "your" Eorzean Zodiac Braves! And also there were two different groups that are called so!"
All in all the backstory seems pretty similar to what happened in FFT (with exception of a few details) and in the end it all went down to the old "There was a really strong evil thing that past heroes couldn't defeat, but seal away and now it's up to you to save the world!"-thing.
I've been wondering about something in regards to this. What makes this different from any other instance of references that makes it more confusing to people? There isn't this kind of thing surrounding Doma, the Triad, the Crystal Tower, the Garleans or Allagans being big mashups of various empires from franchise history, those are all taken at face value.
Is it the fandom subset that insists it's the same universe? Is that extra level of scrutiny brought on by that what's tripping people up?
