With all of the limitations holding FFXIV back, why not make a new FF MMORPG?

That's not what they said though. I get the whole hyperbolic reactions regarding male Viera gets annoying but that's not what this thread is. I don't necessarily agree but I do recognize that they're constantly limited by the fact that they rebuilt FFXIV using the messy 1.0 engine, and it really does seem to put the devs in a tough spot from time to time. I don't think it's realistic for them to build a new MMO considering SE isn't even giving the existing team more resources.

They use the excuse of "server limitations" but they could do a lot more than what they say they can. Retainers are a good example, and the companion app is another. People have been asking for more storage space, so they added it...for a price. There is a lot of problems that they could solve if they chose to. The only limitations are the ones they put on themselves, usually for monetary gain.

Anyways, I don't see SE starting another MMO soon. It takes too much time and resources away from FFXIV.

However, if Yoshi-san is open to suggestions, I think a world based upon the Secret of Mana would be great!

Why does it have to be a FF MMO? Why not a StarOcean MMO?

Let's face it though : the last decent star ocean was star ocean 3 and it was released a while ago.

The MMO genre isn't what it used to be, and making one is a massive undertaking(easily 5+ years of development, tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars) with no guarantee of success. It would be a big gamble.

They startet with the development for FF14 in late 2004 and released it in 2010, that's 6 years of development time. And then they fell flat on the nose with it and had to rebuild the game on the old code to release it again in 2013. That's a total of 9 years of dev time and probably millions of dollars they invested before this game made them money.

So, even when they start with a new FF MMO now, don't expect it to be released anytime soon.

As we all are, and by what we see. Or at least by what I see. Could I be wrong in my opinion? Of course. I would gladly accept that. It just seems rather sketchy to me that throwing extra money at them makes them "solve" issues we keep asking about. It could just be coincidental but I typically don't believe in those. They're a business, I get that. But as a business it is smart to invest in one's product if it is doing well and not milk it till it dies. The game isn't dying but it could sure use more money for QoL things and content additions. Wasting time on "fixing" old Ex primals isn't exactly a good use of their time and resources when much bigger issues need addressed.

I completely agree. I try to be understanding about potential limitations and lack of resources and whatnot but SE is not a small indie company, so it kind of makes me wonder when this game earns so much money (our subs + mogstation) and yet they still seem to be lacking resources. I understand that there's limits and not everything is possible, but considering the success of this game it's kind of thought provoking.

I don't think FF needs another MMO when they have already 2, and I think it is already too much for them. I don't know if XI is dying, but I suppose maintain XI and XIV won't be easy. And XI's story has ended and about to be rebooted.

Can I wish for more? Of course, there are many thing I would like male Vieras, barefoot option, the possibility to wear glasses and hats... But even with these and other limitations, I think they're doing all their best with all what they give us each 3-4 months, improving with each step. For me, another MMO is not necessary.
