The "Wow Refugee's" impact on the FFXIV Community?

What is one thing you would want to say to "Wow Refugee's" before they enter the community?

Have fun and enjoy the story. Even if its not your thing try to take it in because, ( and this is nothing against WoW. Respect for many years of being on top but ) the story in ff14 is so good imo in comparison to WoW. I tried getting into WoW lore and story and I just...got bored sorry :/ but yeah take in the story, take your time getting to know Eorzea. Play. Have fun.

While I do think that this community is largely decent you probably shouldn't put it up on a pedestal. It's the internet. There's going to be jerks no matter where you go. I do see them less often in FF XIV though and I do think the community is undoubtedly better in comparison to WoW's. In WoW it's mostly a matter of having way more players than we do here despite BfA's screw ups which increases the amount of jerks one encounters. I'm a WoW refugee at times but I play both games on a pretty regular basis. Even if we have a suddenly high influx of WoW players entering the game we probably won't notice a difference.

I was more refering to new FFXIV players, who experienced a few years in WoW and thought they could beat any high end raid easily. Last year, I ve met someone who said something like "I played WoW world first for x years. I know how to tank!" (he was actually kiting the boss and doesnt know how to tank swap). Maybe a troll, but I m not sure. I just want to say, that not anything from WoW will work FFXIV, too.

I find it very hard to believe he's not a troll as tank swapping is in nearly every raid boss in WoW.

I used to play WoW before i started playing FF14. Now i play both, but i'm probably going to let my sub run out for WoW. BFA has been a monumental disappointment for me. I used to be a serious WoW player, i was super geared to the point where the only content left that was a challenge was Mythic raiding or Mythic keystones 15 and up.

On FF14 i'm a complete casual, i don't savage raid or anything.

More players is a good thing. I just hope that new sprouts are able to find the information they need to pick the right server choice for their playstyle so community interests can be more aligned, especially with the data center changes coming up.

Every community is toxic, it's just wow has its toxic upper end and this game has its toxic casuals.

If there's a change going on, then we're reaching equilibrium and that isn't so bad.

I watched a Nixxiom YouTube video the other day, where he jumped back into WoW for the free weekend.
He was running a dungeon and was trying to talk to players and be cheerful.
He was quickly told to "stfu"

He was also trying to get players to talk to him to give away free stuff, such as pets. I think only one person talked to him.

I don't miss WoW at all....the community here is 1000x friendlier.

Someone used me yesterday. They put a PF listing up for what would be considered a glamour farm here for a certain raid (mythic Hellfire Citadel). The first boss is a pain and the 4th or 5th one is easier with 4 people, so it's normal. Zoned in and the guy's like "we can get started". Defeated the first boss and I was kicked from his group. The guy laughed at me and waved goodbye. To say I was salty would be an understatement because not only did I get removed from a raid I wished to farm gear from, I was locked to HIS raid for the rest of the week and could not accomplish anything. Joined another raid later yesterday evening and got nearly a full set from mythic Tomb of Sargeras. I even gave someone a piece I already had. So...in the end, joke's on the jerk I can't even remember the name of. Such behavior is more common in WoW, no doubt.

No offense guys, but WoW has been in decline since FFXIV started to become a popular MMO. That means players from WoW have been migrating for years and have helped formed our community. Like I get it, WoW has a reputation. I just find you all overreacting when you think that a sudden influx of WoW refugees is going to change much in this game when we have been receiving them from the start. To be frank, ex-WoW players helped build this community and this game and its been a healthy relationship between both games due to competition and borrow from one another. Also, since when I started ARR I have seen toxic players and I have seen some stupid stuff, but it hasn't increased nor decreased. This to me is just the game of pin the blame on a specific gaming community and us screaming 'the sky is falling'.

More players as said is always good; but if they continue to be toxic and tell new players to "google it $#@" when a question is asked or kick after 1 wipe on new content then there will be issues. I'm a bit nervous about them becoming Mentors and the jokes about them turning into real problems.

Only time will tell; but for now we murder/death/kill them with kindness.
