Maybe her name is actually Fjan but someone thought she'd pronounced it "Fran", and she just shrugged and said, "close enough".
I don't know; I never played FF12.
She's got a chicken to ri-ide, she's got a chicken to ri-i-ide...
She's got a chicken to ride, this game's from Square!

Thank you for replaying the game and sharing your insight with us! It's something to speculate on and get excited over!
I understand there are 2 jobs in ffxii for the vieras, going by the wikis are the wood-wardens and the slave makers. I also understand that ffxiv may not follow the naming convention of the old games. But they seemed to follow the names of the race, so I'm leaning towards them following it. Personal pov! I'm not sure myself! But seeing how they can hear the Green world and stuff, I think they maybe more knowledgable in he other worlds or some sort. Hahaha. I never played ff12 myself XD but I always feel these mysteries or unknown element x are such a way to open up chains to link the worlds.
I know not only in ffxii, Tactics A2 also follow the 4 letter naming convention, but no j's in there is. Maybe it's a different world thing!
^ hahaha I'm not worried about this at all. As of right now, I'm just interested of what we know of the names and such! I know what I want to do with my own character! Thanks for worrying for me!

Ooh that's something to note! The name of their race seemed to be of Solvakian origin since I managed to find the meaning of the name in that language. I'm not sure of the similarities of both Icelandic and Solvakian to make a comparison or link to their roots. Thank you for your insight!Viera have an Icelandic accent in FFXII. An easy comparison is the singer Bjork. Hm... Bjork.
So, there is another place of interest to look at while brainstorming names.

Touché! But excitement got the better of me, and this tends to help with the excitement, hee ^_^;; sorry.

This would have been super funny seeing how that's super realistic in real life scenarios!
Let's not forget that other vieras have also taken on names that doesn't follow the 4 letter rule in Tactics A2 and the ...very clearly seem to have more interaction with non Vieras XD
Aluette, a Fencer member of Prima Donna.
Valentyne, a Spellblade also from Prima Donna

I don't know if it helps or the opposite, but Krjn was named Caroline in German and Italian, and I think her japanese name in TA was also closer to Caroline (Krjn was supposed to be the Viera in your starting party). The only other notable Viera in TA was Shara, who somewhat follows the XII naming convention of having an R sound but 5 letters instead of 4.
The other Viera that follow it closer in TA2 are Alys, Veis, Ruuj and Verre (sorta, same deal as Shara). That said, yeah, the most likely thing is that Koji Fox will upload the naming conventions closer to release date.

Caroline and Krjn is such a huge difference hahaha!
Now I'm extra excited to see if we hit or miss on the naming conventions!

Viera have Scandanavian style names
In all honesty, I kind of wish they'd post name conventions earlier. I've had a name change sitting idle on an alt I plan to fantasia to my viera, but they're at the start of Stormblood and I'd like to try to push them through it before Shadowbringers. Can't do that without changing the name though. Naming conventions can't come soon enough. ; ;
Another user had earlier mentioned that it may have some relation to Icelandic. Is this also under Scandinavian-ish? Theyre generally within influence area, imo. Sorry. Obviously I don't study enough xD
You could always imagine them having gone by an alias that they took on cuz it's easier for non vieras to pronounce or they didnt like their true name being called by non viera or the Greenwood! Then when you decide the name, it'll be like super reveal. At least it wont affect your gameplay/progression!In all honesty, I kind of wish they'd post name conventions earlier. But I agree, i wished the naming convention came sooner. I have a painful belief that the names are part of the character, their background and history. So I tend to build a character with these 3 information ;×;
