Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

Male Viera would be a dream come true to me! I've been dying to be a bun for so long in this game. They're my favorite animal and it would make me so happy to be able to be one that would resemble me most. Also female Hrothgar would be a lovely addition too. The choice is very important to many and to have a gender locked away definitely feels like a step back. Plus this isn't the same game as ff12/tactics. I'm sure they could make it fit into the lore somehow like they've done with other things in the past.

Gender locking was a mistake back when Miqo'te, Roegadyn, and highlanders were gender locked, it's a mistake now. Please create female hrothgar and male viera.

I finalized my settings on the forums, so that I could show support for male viera and female hrothgar. I don't believe that gender locking a race, has any place in FFXIV at this point, especially after Yoshi P was the one that said it was silly, back when Roe's and Miqote's were unlocked for their missing genders. I realize it was probably not entirely his decision to lock the genders, and I do hope we will get the other genders sometime during ShB. I would enjoy having a female buffcat, personally. Roe isn't quite what I'm looking for. I started playing as Miqote, and then switched to Au Ra on my main. Both are a bit too small, but have character features that I enjoy using in a fantasy setting.

They also need to respect the origin of the race with regards to the wider franchise, Viera come from FF tactics and are solely available for play as female, though male Viera are acknowledged to exist in tactics as well. What FFXIV is doing is paying respect to that, whist also giving players a male counterpart in the form of Hrothgar.

Lore is no longer an excuse. We have a Nier raid coming soon, you can drive a Regalia around, you have other unlocked races that were originally gender locked but was later decided against. It would be extremely easy to explain male Viera as such: they may hide away on our world, but in this one, they don't. It's already confirmed all the worlds started from one single point but went on to develop differently. I realize that its difficult to create new races, especially with the need to go back and work on all of the old gear. However, the players wanted Viera as a full race, now we have Hrothgar... Now people want full races of both, rather than just the one. If lore is still the excuse, the Hrothgar make even less sense as female Ronso do, in game, exist. I appreciate the hard work of the dev team, I truly do, but I wish they had been up front with us about the situation, rather than dangling hope in front of us- and they did. I hope they consider adding both male Viera and female Hrothgar. I'm sure it feels like the community demands a lot, but I, and I'm sure many others, were nervous but truly didn't think they would go back to gender locking like in 1.0. Here's hoping both genders come later down the line.

So wheres the respect for Ronso/Hrothgar FFX never restricted them ever they are perhaps one of the best races in FF(my opinion) yet their established presence in the ff franchise is being rewritten in FFXIV while Viera is not so i ask Why is Viera this sacred holy cow of do not touch?

It sounds like you are saying discrimination is perfectly fine if:
1. its in a game
2. its in another culture
3. (im adding this) its not you

There are lots of things in the world that are horrible. Like you say, this is a fantasy. The devs have the option to leave ALL the horrible things out. Why are you ok with adding in discrimination?
Would you feel different if they forced you play a cutsie helpless little female character? I bet you would.

Does that mean that you enjoy cataclysms, wars and racial discriminations? Because that has been portrayed in the game since ARR at least so you've had time to deal with the fact that the story is not supposed to be the smooth care bears world you seem to want.
