Not having the resources to do both genders for both races I understand. I still would prefer one complete race over two halves. But I understand it. I can get where they're coming from.

The lore angle however doesn't hold water. SO MUCH of Ivalice lore is changed in the FFXIV version of it that I simply DO NOT BUY the lore excuse for male viera. There is no reason on lore grounds for male viera to be the one sacred cow they cannot touch when they change so much of the rest of it.

When someons says 'we/they wanted to do two races and didn't have the resources to do both genders' I can understand and respect it.

Trying to bring up the 'lore' to defend it feels like a chap excuse all things considered and that annoys me.

yup, lore people make no sense, the devs write the lore however they want.

So they don't have the resources to do boths, they didn't even consider Male Viera. But.
They still need to create Lore for an in-game reason as to why you can't be one/can't see one, it's not about using the Lore to try to defend something, it's about consistency of the FFXIV Universe. How is this hard to understand ? Did you want them to not even mention Male Viera in-game ? At least they provided something to explain why you won't see any NPCs etc...It's really not hard to grasp.

No, this is what annoys me.

The actual reason we're not getting male viera or female hrothgar is development resources. They don't have time to do them. I can understand and respect that even if I disagree with the two half races appraoch and would have preferred to get either as a full race.

I don't mind that there is lore to resflect the rarity of male viera/female hrothgar.

What annoys me is people saying that the lore IS the reason for not having male viera. That is the part that makes no sense to me and irks me.

Since we now have the interview of Yoshida saying that Male Viera was never on the table during the creation of Shadowbringers, those people are just wrong and should just be ignored.

Or maybe they were never on the table BECAUSE OF THE LORE, because you know Viera's lore is about how male are never to be seen, ever, they even are rare occurence among Viera and even in their own village/city/treehouse/whatever they are none to be seen, NEVER. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO MALE VIERA NPC TO EVER BEEN IN EXISTENCE CAUSE THE LORE SAID SO.

Considering how development works, there is a strong possibility that there are already 'basic' (but incomplete) male viera models. What I would assume is to be the likeliest of cases is that somewhere through development of Viera they stopped and switched to Hrothgar. The thinking, probably, was whether people would just want Male/Female Viera as the final race, or two races that are genderlocked (with the thinking that Male Viera and Female Hrothgar would not be popular choices anyways). I think they gambled that people wanted more races, even if gender locked.

Considering fanfest, I think they guessed somewhat wrong. THe audience reaction to Hrothgar reveal wasnt huge excitement. It was more "Aww" disappointment overall. Factor in the flurry of posts across most of the forums, it does seem reasonable that SE is heavily considering spending resources giving the player base both sexes. Which is fine. I want them too, to be frank. Like in other threads, gender locked races in most MMOs are typically unpopular with certain exceptions (the magical girl trope, as an example.)

So yeah, if there is enough player interest in both (which I imagine you will see), we may get it in hte end. And it may come mid Xpac as a means to keep in game interest going. We'll see though. All Im thinking, though, is they wouldnt say they were looking at player feedback so soon after fanfest unless the reaction to it was not what they were expecting and are worried it may damage the brand.

Just as a quick aside to this point: This is FFXIV, not Tactics. Not any other ff game. There is 0 reason they have to keep 100% to the lore of another game that is only connected to this one through the loosest of instances. This isnt a contiguous universe. Even the Ivalice story isnt exactly a carbon copy of the original. Its an FFXIV spin on it. In fact, most of FFXIV is a spin on previous FF games, but not a 100% carbon copy. It borrows a lot of elements but its not a clone of it. There is no reason FFXIV cant have male viera and distinguish hat this isnt tactics. Nor is there any reason the lore cant evolve to include Male Viera.

Yeah like how in 1.0 nobody saw male Miqo'te and there was numerous dialogue about them never being seen and people not even believing that they even exist. Good thing we still never see them either huh? Would really ruin my immersion.

To be fair about all of this I play as a black cat. Now to be perfectly honest would I like to play as a male bunny? Yes. Do I think they'll implement them any time soon if at all? If I were a betting man I'd likely lose my next year's worth of paychecks. Jokes aside let's get something straight here. Male Viera has never really been a thing. We know they exist and that's about the extent of our knowledge. We have some concept art but so far as we know there are no 3D models done yet. This means basic game functions, movement mechs, battle mechs, etc. So to put it bluntly while I REALLY want male usagi I won't hold my breath. I'll surely die from lack of oxygen...
