Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

It’s so amazing that this thread has garnered so much support in just a few days! This is something people obviously care about and it’s awesome seeing so many people coming out and being positive. I had my doubts but the community’s attitude has rekindled some of my hope and enthusiasm.

There’s also a lot of people showing up to naysay or start fights about lore purity or whatever, dragging people into fruitless debates. Don’t let them distract you or derail the thread into pointless squabbling: they’re just here to waste your time (and posting limit) and drain your energy, and diminish the potency of the message by baiting you into drama. Ignore them, let them shout into the void and be drowned out by the more measured, positive voices!

Remember: lore is a mutable construct and games are about having fun. If the lore is used to justify deliberately restricting or hampering people’s ability to have good, clean, harmless fun, the problem is the lore. Lore should never be held more sacred than the joy of the players!

Based on your comments, you don't seem to understand that settings often describe cultures whose ideals don't align with our own. Yes, they may be discriminatory. That's the point! It is a fantasy setting. The game isn't intended to be a reflection of whatever your ideals are. I'm against the gender-lock, but please let's keep this identity politics stuff out of it and focus on demand for the race being added.

It sounds like you are saying discrimination is perfectly fine if:
1. its in a game
2. its in another culture
3. (im adding this) its not you

There are lots of things in the world that are horrible. Like you say, this is a fantasy. The devs have the option to leave ALL the horrible things out. Why are you ok with adding in discrimination?
Would you feel different if they forced you play a cutsie helpless little female character? I bet you would.

I was so happy at the prospect of playing as a male viera, and wholly disagree with any gender-locking in games. The decision for female-only viera (and male-only hrothgar) has truely disappointed me, and I hope that it will be reversed in the future.

I have seen the community produce beautiful male Viera fanart, both in the English-speaking and Japanese-speaking circles. +1 for Male Viera!

I've been really enjoying changing the look of my character around as I have continued to play this game for years. I would very much so be interested in paying for another fantasia just to be able to play as a Viera male. Please consider transactions like mine when deciding on adding this gender to the Viera race.

So, let's look at the bright side. With Matsuno outright mentioning he had nothing to do with the gender-lock, and with Yoshida having to answer a question about it during a Gamespot interview. That means something important has happened.

We're on the radar, people! So I don't think we should use this time for in fighting, or feeding any trolls we may encounter. Now is the time to put up a united front.

How does everyone feel about just making a mass "post writing" day. The fact is, we won't be able to keep up this energy consistently. However, if we organize and pick one day of the month for about a year or so, to really pour our hearts out here. Then we can stick around as a relevant topic.

(Although, the best thing we could do is somehow combine the post about female Hrothgar race with this one. Because, again, united front)

I think we already races that fill the same gap male Viera would. Just look at male Miqo'tes, most races with males have some way to make them look soft and gentle.
