Why are some people so deluded with the world that they think everything that doesn't bend-over backwards to appease them is somehow out to get them?
People are trying to make it seem like SE did this out of some "deep-seated hatred towards gays", when in reality they made the decision to have 2 gender locked races so we would receive the equivalent of a full race whilst still respecting the original concept and lore of the races.
I personally would prefer to have both genders and only 1 new race, but does that mean I think SE have something against homosexuality for not doing so? Of course not, they are a business with limited resources. They made this decision based on what resources they had available to them at the time. FFXIV ARR is hell to work on, it's made on the framework of 1.0 so they are working with archaic tech that they most likely didn't have a hand in making.

That sounds like a really nice backstory! I imagined the male Viera to be guerrilla type warriors of the wood. Lurking in the shadows, laying traps out, being much more savage than their female counterparts yet have somewhat of an elegance to them.
I would've loved to be a male Viera, and I was crestfallen when I learned they were gender-locking the race.
I would love to see male Viera (and female Hrothgar) be added someday down the line!
Adding my +1!

I do not like gender-locking races. I believe as far as playable races/classes/etc. we go pretty outside of the lore already. Gender-locking should have ended with 2.0. I hope that SE will see the reactions to this and work to unlock genders for these races in the future. It is probably too late for the foreseeable future, but hopefully won’t have to wait too long. If they do decide that it was a mistake, I definitely want them to take enough time to do it well.
I feel like this is a false equivalency. Yoshi-P promised an end to Genderlocking when he took over the series back in ARR. He broke that promise not once but twice. I do think sexism entered into this if not homophobia. Instead of soft, gentle male bunnies we got super masculine lions built on power fantasy and muscles. Culturally we have an issue, in both America and Japan, with letting men be soft and feminine. It's not unfair to say that played a factor in the lack of male Veira. Why are some people so deluded with the world that they think everything that doesn't bend-over backwards to appease them is somehow out to get them?

This would be really cool! I'm curious to see what they would look like
I named my character specifically because I really like bunnies and I'm really looking forward to the possibility of a Male Viera, I'm saving my fantasia for it...
