Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

I would be fine with male Viera at any height and build they'd probably end up considering. Short, medium height, tall, waif-ish, athletic, built etc are all totally fine with me. The only build type I would be opposed to is like, Hrothgar/Roe level of ripped but I don't think they'd go in that direction anyway since those both exist now? I'd like female Hrothgar to be pretty ripped though. Like, more ripped than femroe, but as long as they're pretty tough or fierce looking that's fine. I'll probably end up liking both regardless of physique so long as they are actually made.

This art has been passed around and imo it's my ideal interpretation of both of them (though would still want the male viera to be a touch shorter than the female for some added uniqueness, and it would be cool if the female hrothgar either had smaller chests, compared to the other two muscular woman races, or had no breasts at all #sixOrNone.)

Yoshi, in no uncertain terms, said that this was a decision based solely on the lack of resources to develop male and female versions of both races.
People here don't understand that the FF14 dev team is undermanned and that the game code (the sam from 1.0) is literally held together with duct tape.

If devs are reading this, I just wanted to say I understand your decisions, I know you have to cut corners, I know SE funnels FF14 staff and money into other games constantly. I know there's a shortage of mmo devs in Japan. I know the devs are probably at their wits' end trying to finish the content in time, I know Soken sleeps in his office for days to meet the deadlines, I had enough attentiveness when listening to Yoshi to hear him say ''we'll barely finish the expansion in time for release'', ''I approved the music only a day before the fanfest'', ''we finished the trailer a day before the fanfest''.

I truly love you for your work and I completely understand why adding 2 genders of 2 new races along with 2 new jobs is hard. I hope you aren't disheartened by the people whining, I hope you are not angry when they call you lazy, because I know you're giving it all you've got. And I literally couldn't care less if you add a male viera, I will be rolling a Ronso MNK and I will love it.

The thread has largely been conducted in a respectful manner. The endeavour is not necessarily intended to persuade the devs, but at the senior management, to voice the fact that there is strong demand for both male Viera and female Hrothgar. I am sure the devs are well aware of this demand, and would have preferred to add the missing gender for each race, but have had limited ability to do much without player feedback, to go back to their bosses to. So that's what we're hoping to offer them. Of course we appreciate their work and effort, but that doesn't change the desire for the missing gender of each race to be added. I've made it quite clear I don't support bringing identity politics into this, or making it personal about the devs, but SE do need feedback in order to act on this, so whilst you may be ok with the gender lock, many of us would prefer for it to go.

I mean, yeah, if we get them we're going to go through the whole battle of the 'tall/slender/muscular/beautiful' vs 'small/thin/cute/adorable' again. Oh no...

I'm separating beautiful from cute because to me they don't mix.

well i mean, if you could change the height in a dramatic way, change the texture on the muscles and had a cute and handsome option in faces it would honestly hit both camps.
I main Highlander Huyr lady and my highlander is the smallest she can be, so she's the same height as a midlander.

A wide enough height slider, and also a muscle tone slider, could resolve the issue in that case. It is what I wish they had done with auri females, i.e. added a bigger range on their height scale, maybe up to highlander female height. So we're in agreement on that front.

I also hope SE reconsiders the decision on genderlocking male Viera. True, male viera has never been seen before. This is why if would be a great and bold move! To show male Viera in FFXIV is something never seen before! It would really make players happy, as evident in this thread. Ever since I played FFXII as a young boy, I have wanted to see male Viera. Having it not added, especially after seeing the lore for it in game, was heartbreaking. I have never changed from male Miqo'te, but male Viera would change that in an instant! I loved the concept art!

I would also like to add that the story for male Vieras can be written to TURN THE LORE UPSIDE DOWN!

The writers can definitely take what we currently know about male Vieras:

"The story of the male Viera is about a struggle... a struggle against a matriarchal society that is largely discriminatory toward them. With no representation in the governance of their society, relegated to a life as protectors of the forests, they've become reclusive... having a strong disdain over those in power for denying them the right explore beyond the forest, and outlawing their desire to choose their profession. Fran, the Viera's greatest heroine recognized this discrimination and was in solidarity with the male Viera. When she became the leader of the Viera, by her decree... the males were granted the right to pursue their full measure of happiness, thus ending the age old "Green Word" that bounded them to the Golmore Jungle. See? That's my solution to the lore problem if I was a writer. LOL I'm sure the FFXIV writers are far better at it though. haha :3

While I have no intention of playing as a male Viera (I'm almost certainly going to become a male Hrothgar), I have friends who are long term players and are very disappointed they will not be able to. So I would like to support bringing male Viera and female Hrothgar to ffxiv so that everyone can play as a character which makes them happy
