I appreciate where you're coming from, but the childish behaviour is not only coming from one side. What about people who are indifferent to the announcements but revel in others' disappointment? What about calling people "autistic" as an insult? What about accusations of blackmailing the devs by cancelling your sub? There's toxicity all around and these people are also contributing to a negative feeling in the community. If their toxicity is left unchecked, the message that sends is that people aren't allowed to feel disappointment with game developments. That they're not allowed to voice their concerns, even in a constructive manner. Enabling this attitude does nothing to help the community either.

I totally agree with you, childish behaviour from both sides is unappreciated. the reason I focused my discussion on the side that are angry about the 5.0 additions is because they're effectively a root issue, if that situation is cleared up, then those attacking that group don't have anyone to attack anymore. Then if they decide to focus their childish attitude elsewhere, then we call them out on that as well. I would have addressed it in my initial post, but there's only so much you can fit in 3000 characters

However, while this discussion could spill further into a whole discussion about the difference in cultures between the East and West, and also about people's own personal opinions (I'd rather it didn't), it doesn't change the fact that if we make our voices heard in a respectable manner, and present our wishes in respectful way, a compromise may be reached, much like the male bunny outfit compromise was met.

On a side note for OP, apparently you also don't know that they actually took an OFFICIAL stance in the past regarding genderlocking and guess which it was. (A minor spoiler: They officially stated they weren't going to genderlock future races.)

Finally, yes, there were people who even made a thread saying how people unsubbing were a "disgrace" because according to him it was "blackmail" what they were doing. However, for anyone with some knowledge of economics, this is not the case.

Just wanted to add that there is more to complain about, for some it's an ensemble of things, as well as the apparent insincerity from SE as was the case for this and the current direction.

Fair enough, I didn't even realize there was a character limit, oops at me.

If nothing else, I suppose this whole fiasco has opened up people's eyes to the attitudes simmering under the surface of this "great community." Not that there aren't tons of great people to meet and play with, but eh. I think some people had their heads in the sand, too. We're not as great as we think we are. There's room for improvement in the way all sides communicate.

What? No. Stop reading into things that aren't there.
It'd be weird because viera has existed in Final Fantasy games throughout as female only. Lorewise they sure exist but to suddenly have them running around the world everywhere would in fact be pretty weird.

Because its been 6 years and considering how we've been vocal about what we as a community want - which is most certainly not gender-locking, considering the outcry about the bunny outfit, among other things - we thought he'd add the other gender.

None of that gives any indication on his views changing though, which was my point. I am not saying it is a good (or bad) choice, just that with no reason to believe his mind changed... I wouldn't have hyped myself up.

Of course it would be nice if everyone could do this in a respectable manner. It'd also be nice if everything was made out of chocolate and gooey gumdrops. :v I just don't think it's realistic. That's just how the FF XIV community is. "Great community btw" indeed. I'm just saying that telling people, "how do you think it is sexist/homophobic? It totally isn't sexist/homophobic." isn't going to do anything for anyone. Just adds more fuel to the fire because not only do they feel slighted by SE, but now you've got other community members blanketly dismissing their issues at the same time.

The dev team made this choice, they've got to deal with the fallout from it. I don't feel bad for them in the slightest over it.
