Scouting would be the smarter choice from a design perspective if only to balance out gearing: 4/3/3/2/2/3 would feel a lot better in terms of drops, mainly in 24-mans, than 4/3/3/3/1/3.

Maiming gear has no reason to be separate from striking gear anymore. It originally had different defensive stats from striking giving dragoons higher physical defense and lower magical, but this was determined not to be good for the raiding scene wherein a dragoon would die to a party-wide mechanic that everyone else would live through just because the damage was magical. So now maiming gear maintains higher physical defense but the same magical. Making it so the sets are no longer separate would be a smart move.

Additionally Scouting and Aiming sets used to have different defensive stats, but that is no longer the case too. So if they're looking to consolidate, they can eliminate one and have all DEX jobs use the same armor sets.

Honestly I can see it going either way. Ninja gear is well just for ninja's now and having another class use it can work. Plus Throwing weapons could be either pierce or slashing, depending on the weapon being used(chakrams are obviously slashing but THrowing knives and daggers and Shurican could be piercing. Heck if they get throwing fans thats slashing too)

But I am being biased and want them to be normal Ranged DPS gear so I can use Amon's hat on my for now planned glam

This is in reference to during the Live Letter at Japan's FanFest, he stated you cannot change one aspect of the game without it affecting another aspect. Them changing the battle system may effect armor, so they might not be able to answer due to work being currently done and issues that have still yet to come up and be worked on.

I'd be down for that. Scouting and Maiming being their own gear sets has basically just meant that there's a fail state in the Loot pool no matter what you're running. If they cut them out then you're less likely to get a gear drop that no one can use.
