Not if you just refuse to wear it. What's a few stat points if it means you can a void wearing *that*?
(Or just turn off headgear. Every so often you see the poor newbies that clearly haven't worked out that button yet.)

I think I'm starting to understand the problem.
Because of 1.0 spaghetti code and the way character data is saved on the server, there is a limited amount of parameters that can be saved. It's the reason why Au Ra faces and horns are linked, they can't split them because they'd run out of memory.
So in order to open up more customization for the new races they repurposed the parameters for full helmets, face coverings and ./visor options. Regular coverings are still possible but with clipping.
So the trade off is Viera ears, hair and faces and probably more being seperate and more combinations being possible against headgear that would have looked bad or would have to hide the ears regardless.
Still. I hope we can get some more clear info on what will and won't be visible. I main SMN and the horn is too iconic. Same with Ninja and masks. Full helmets are an understandable sacrifics, many other options aren't.
I want them to actually make one that works. If they just go back regular head gears thinking people will just hide them, they'll never try to actually make it work. This hiding thing makes me feel optimistic that someday they will actually find a style that works. I doubt they'll hid the slot for these races forever.

how is that a bad thing most headgear is trash anywayshttps://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme..._with_yoshida/
First genderlock and now this? First a limited job and now limited races?
I mean I know 1.0 was drowned in its over attention to detail. But like How gear had ears for Miqote and Elezen, tail hole/details for Miqote (which also now apply to Au'Ra) and other details like that were good! And Im sad they couldn't do the same for these races. Of course they haven't been working on these races for long so really they just need more time, and really should have started the races sooner!

According to an Impress/Gamewatch iterview, the head gears of the two new races will not be shown with the exception of those that can be done by "head replacement".
The "head replacement" is those like snow man gear, chocobo head, namazu head (Yoshida "err... It's not out yet...?").
As someone pointed out, adding new races means double the time to create equipments and they are currently at the limit of adding new races if they are to keep up the current patch pace with all the new corresponding equipments.
For Viera to be compatible with Miqote equipment, they would have needed to position the ear wider, which would not be Viera.
I'm glad you at least added in your title that Viera won't be getting head gear either.
The reddit post was incredibly biased, it didn't even include Viera.

Things that wont show- Helms/ Glasses
Things that will show- Hats/ scarfs/ full head replacement stuff like Fat Chocobo head.
In return we get some next level customization with these 2, from bangs to ears to animal faces ranging from Lions to Wolves and horns and such.
Plus they will add things to the "will show" list as time goes.
I'm fine with this ... I mean, I just hope the Chocobo Mask you get from racing is in the head replacement list or at least is high on the list of things to work on cause that's a hard earned reward.

This small bit right here caused a chill to run down my spine for some reason.Q: Are there NPC Vieras that wear glasses?
A: Even if they tried to make them, I think I would've stopped them. It leads to players complaining-
