I don't think people usually really care or think too hard about giving a comm. Especially in alliance raids where everything's messy. I usually don't even notice what others are doing, because I'm too busy with my own role and mechanics. Even if I died and got a raise I usually don't remember who's the one who resurrected me at the end. If nobody exceptionally stood out with a special feat, like a sole surviver saving us from a wipe, I either give my comm to someone who wrote something in chat or because I liked the name or the outfit or whatever.
That probably explain the alliance raid situation, but even in dungeons and sometimes 8 man trials/raids I get either all 3 comms in a dungeon(which rarely happened to me before when DPSing and mostly happen when I heal) or 4 to 5 comms as a samurai.

In raids it's particularly weird since people mostly get their loot and dash immediately to the exit.

Like.... am I outputing more damage than my fellow DPSes at the time during those?

People saying it's OK to queue up for dungeons with terrible gear baffle me honestly.

I ran into a similar situation in Shisui with a tank wearing a level 44 belt, and when I called her out on it the whole party told me to shut up and stop being a try hard. OK if you think playing HP ping pong with your healer is fun then go for it I'll take the penalty.

Like today for example I get 4 comms on syrcus tower for.....some reason.I didn't do something special beside dpsing like usual and having some fun in alliance chat

Maybe it's a coincidence and I found people nice enough to give comms but it's weird to have this shower of praise when Im playing as the selfish DPS rather than the utilitarian ones.

Is it the amount of damage I'm doing?
Don't know about your experience, but I end up throwing my comms at DPS pretty often. This is how I usually decide who gets my comm:
    - Lala Pocket-Tank <3
    - Wearing a cute glam
    - Nice and polite in chat
    - New player who seems to be doing their best/is asking questions if struggling with something
    - Machinist (because I almost never see any unless I'm one)
    - Any support who remembers that Refresh exists and nobody has to beg for it
    - DPS who is pulling their own weight and making things go smoother
    - Tank who knows their capabilities and correctly judges the party's capabilities and is thus making things go smoother
    - Healer who is actually using all the tools at their disposal and making things go smoother

A lot of people seem to just auto-comm healers as a participation award, but personally, I try to reward people who stand out. If I do give it to a healer, it's because they were doing more than just showing up for work.

...unless someone's a Lala tank. Then there's no real contest unless they're absolutely dreadful at their job or have a foul mouth.

I'm a lala dark knight so im an edgy potato xD

anywho,i understand getting comms when say I get new people and teach them the mechs or say pull the party out of a pickle when the tank dies during certain bosses. But sometimes it's a normal run with say a summoner or BLM who does way more damage on mobs in dungeons than say...my hissatsu aoe and Tenka aoe attacks.maybe I got lucky or maybe Samurai has something about it that I havent caught on to yet xD

Speaking of gear snafu's, I had a Doma Castle run last week where the tank's left side was mostly level 60 gear (thankfully the weapon was just good enough to hold aggro most of the time)

    OMG, squishy AF

Thankfully, she seemed to realize quickly she was undergeared and adjusted pulls. But my bar might as well been all heals because that's pretty much all I got to cast that entire dungeon. How we got out of there with only one wipe still baffles me.

I know people can go in a little weak in gear and make up for it in skill - but ffs, that is stressful as hell.

Queue into O10N to work on second DRK mount and try for that mythical orchestrion roll.

First pull, pair of DRG's and one of the two RDM are dying so much. If it weren't for the Battle Litany going out, I'd assume they weren't pushing buttons at all as they spent a lot of time just running in circles. One did frequently use Dragon Sight on the WAR during the second pull. The one RDM was in the same boat, just running in circles.

Like three people die to the first Ahk Morn which is hilarious because it targetted me and I invuln'd it. Except one of those people was the WAR who was main tank, so now I'm main tank. Except when I died to Walking Dead. Invulning Ahk Morn was more fun as PLD.

Get rez'd, grab the boss, hit it and phase change. Auto'd to death by the dragon which doesn't matter because the DPS check was failed.

Second pull, things go a bit better except the two DRG and one RDM are still dying to everything. Actually pass the DPS check. Healers decide to rotate between which of them was going to die, but couldn't decide at one point, so both die at one point. WAR hops back into tank stance to stay alive, I get targetted for an Ahk Morn, not enough to stack, so invuln it. Presumably the other RDM brings a healer up so they can LB3 which is good because I'd have died to Walking Dead otherwise.

You know the Exaflare/Cauterize thing you might see twice in a given run? That happened a good 4-5 times. Also we got LB3 a second time.

Boss had to be rotated a full ninety degrees because the godawful RDM had a deathly fear of overlapping the ice an slid with theirs right on top of the WAR, so between that and Exaflares, boss was facing east.

I heard some fights have a very hard enrage and I was half expecting Daddy Danger Noodle to get sick of this whole thing and just blow everyone up, but that didn't happen. There was an hour left on the time when it was finally brought down.

Orchestrion roll didn't drop and one of the DRG's who had been really living up to the title of floortank just had "Christ..." to say about the whole thing like bruh, you were quite literally carried through the whole fight.

I'm leveling my second job right now, and I had pretty much a full set of Shire gear sitting in my armory chest just waiting for me to hit 60. All I had to do was run MSQ roulette five times, which is also an efficient way to level. It really is easy to be well-geared in that level range.

It gets a bit harder later, sure, when there's such a big jump from iLevel 270 to 279 (and you no longer have quests giving you 279 HQ gear as rewards), but there's no reason you can't be fully decked out in at least Shire gear in the early-to-mid 60s.

Just ran into Avatre in Ravana Ex (Mentor Roulette shenanighans)! Nice running with you! Been a while since I had actually done EX so I was like “Hmmm.... remember the mechanics....”

Apologies for the Shoddy SCH play. Bit rusty since I haven’t touched it much recently, but trying to flex my healers more instead of just playing AST. X3

EDIT: Did one more Mentor Roulette before dinner—Gubal NM. No big deal.

BLM got mad because the tank wasn’t pulling big, so he pulled for the tank. Died. I raised him, and he denied the Raise and released. I told him next time I just won’t waste my MP on him if he’s going to do that. He continues to complain about the tank not pulling big while pulling for the tank. The tank says he doesn’t want to pull big; I said no one cares about the pull sizes, and to just let the tank do what he’s comfortable with because he may not be comfortable with larger pulls even if he has level 60 gear.

    The BLM’s response?
BLM: I don’t know how you managed to clear UwU. I cleared it before you. I cleared it Week 3.
Me: Am I supposed to care? I cleared it just fine.
BLM: You aren’t getting my comm. The other BLM is.
Me: OH NO WHATEVER SHALL I DO. NO COMM.

    I love salty people.

It was a good run...even with the few sprouts who ended up flying off. The sprout tank definitely did a good job of taking over when the other non-sprout went flying. Definitely was a good mentor roulette.
