Wow and here I was hyped for DNC to be a healer....
Now I'm even MORE hyped! Now to find the preview!

Fixed that for you. It takes some severe mental gymnastics to ignore casters in the "ranged" dps slot. Yet I see it in every single thread talking about it by multiple people.
If you stand away from the boss and your job is primarily to do damage, you're a ranged dps. Doesn't matter if it's from a piercing object or a spell cast. End of story.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

Thematically there's big difference between physical and magical.
Why not combine all of DPS then? All of them focus on it anyways, bruh. And quite many fights want you to stay close anyways.
I've feeling quite many would be completely fine if they'd copy-paste WHM/SCH spells, change animations and names a bit and call it new job.i think the problem is, they want to limit the complexity of tanking and healing, since bad heals/tank are more connected to death. Which limits the design space of healers/tanks. not too many ways to do healing differently without upping the complexity, or increasing the difficulty of keeping players alive.
aannd people tend not to like high skill cieling jobs with same max benefit anyhow, sooo basically its pretty hard to come up with an interesting new healer.
Sorry, ran out of daily posts.![]()

you could probably combine all dps, though melee will always need a different balancing due to not being able to hit from range
3 strength melee dps, 1 dexterity melee dps, 3 magic ranged dps, 3 physical ranged dps.
We're just adding extra distinctions for no reason right?
The game itself provides the distinction if you just look at the job lists in your character window or on Lodestone.Fixed that for you. It takes some severe mental gymnastics to ignore casters in the "ranged" dps slot. Yet I see it in every single thread talking about it by multiple people.

I'm actually really looking forward to dancer being a physical ranged dps. I know its sucky that healers didn't get anything, but a less rng (hopefully) ranged dps would be great. I'm sure healers will get some cool abilities in ShB to hopefully make up for it.

There aren't very many people complaining about Dancer specifically not being a healer. People are complaining because we have now gone two full expansion cycles without a new healer job at all, just because they can't figure out how to balance them or make them unique. Most people seem to be simultaneously happy with Dancer and unhappy there is still no new healer, be it Dancer or anything else.
I know this is what they said, and so I'm not directing this at you but at the development team - this is a really stupid way of looking at things considering the way all party content works in the game.
