I will not be continuing my support via mog station purchases, and I will be unsubbing and requesting a refund for Shadowbringers purchase if gender inequality is implemented at launch. I will not support a game that takes a step backwards on this matter.
But having male Vieras would not have bashed it. They do exist. (Otherwise Vieras could not reproduce) The WoL is also someone with no defined past. Who is to say that a male Viera WoL did not just receive visions and decided that it would be better to the forest if he helps Eorzea? Or maybe he is just a Viera that never felt to be part of the forest and simply left. I mean the WoL being a male Viera would not mean that we suddenly have Viera NPCs everywhere.
Then why not just write it that no males exist because the reproduce different from us? Why tell us that males do exist but then dont give it to us?
So now we're still arguing over gender ideologies. XD
The SOLUTION regardless of where we stand on our gender beliefs is...
... Develop and implement MALE Viera and FEMALE Hrothgar options.
Lore can always accommodate for these changes, or go the way of the "Miqote". The devs done it before, they can do it again. ;-)
Therefore, keep the suggestions for the unlocking of gender going!

Really the most annoying thing was them not being forward and outright saying there was no male Viera after Fanfest EU when someone asked the question. They should have just been upfront about it and given the news then, but then add "but we have something cool instead," to build up some mystery and anticipation on what's coming. People were left speculating what Yoshi-P meant (and it was a fairly vague and open answer), so I understand they're disappointed. Again: I'm not surprised, I am still looking forward to the expansion, and in the end it saves me money on Fantasias, but I don't support genderlocking in general.
Also to those saying they could be added later, I somehow doubt that. They're purposefully adding extra customization to Viera and Hrothgar in lieu of them being single-gendered. While it could argued that this is possibly a first step to add further customization to older races, I doubt they'll go through the efforts of retrofitting more options to the six other races.

So out of curiosity; what exactly is rare about the male Miqo'te? I'm either not looking hard enough or in the right pages, but the lore book doesn't seem to state they're super rare. Just that male Seekers of the Sun will either stay in one place with their harem, or explore/travel looking for a new harem (assuming they lost the 1v1 fight).
I mean, the in game viera lore dump guy pretty much says you'll probably never see a male viera in your life time, going as far as to literally say "they do not exist to us". To then turn around and see male viera running to and fro sounds pretty "bashing" to me.But having male Vieras would not have bashed it. They do exist. Could be they wanted to stick close to the lore from XII which pretty much does the exact same thing we see here. Really can't get anymore "Viera" than this.

It's the birthrate. Per generation only around 1 of every 10 or more children is male, which is less than the 2 or more out of 10 for Viera. So out of curiosity; what exactly is rare about the male Miqo'te? Male miqo'te are rare because of the amount born, Viera are just rare because of how they live so physically seeing one is unheard of.
I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.

Is that mentioned anywhere in the game, or in the book?

It is.
Also I just had an epiphany from another thread. G'raha. A lot of people are speculating him to be the mysterious voice in the trailer. HE'S A FREAKIN MIQO'TE! Like what the hell SE? If this is true, you literally shot yourself in the foot.
