Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

If male viera are as rare as male miqo'te, then we should still get to see them because we see and get to play as male miqo'te as well. It's really tiring to have to argue why genderlocking is a bad idea. People have been upset about genderlocked GEAR for the longest time, what makes anyone think locking an entire playable race to one gender is a good idea? Please reconsider this stance, because it just doesn't feel fair or right. If this is how it's going to be then I hope no female hrothgar or male viera are shown as NPCs at all in the expansion, because it will definitely be rubbing salt in the wound.

Registered just to be able to add this. Chiming in as well to support not only male Viera but female Hrothgar since the whole "sexy lady, monster man" thing is tiring. The "for lore's sake" feels flimsy, especially since FFT/FF12 lore was adapted to fit in.

I think that not being forthright with the genderlocking was additionally kind of misleading for the sake of hype/discussion, especially with explicit mentions in the 24 man that some Viera are no longer adhering to the whole seclusion thing.

TBH the only thing really that had piqued my interest in the possibility of Male Viera was the potential of the males possibly being smaller than the females. Sort of a reverse of the Au Ra and if so I might have been able to create a male character far closer to my own physical proportions. Not all physically fit athletic men look like they drink protein shakes at every meal while lifting weights at the gym.

besides, male viera may become playable in the future depending on how the story goes
maybe it's just not the right time to release them... who knows. some people on the japanese forum are speculating this as well

but anyway, for those who want to play as male viera, all we can do is voice that opinion

I actually made an account on these forums specifically for this thread.

I really wanted boy Viera! I was ready to Fantasia my main character for it and everything. I think it makes sense lore wise, since male viera are supposed to be solitary to begin with. Excess male viera might be territorial enough to leave their forests to go adventuring as WoL. There's no reason the lore can't be altered somewhat to accommodate for this.

Besides, they already made this mistake with Mi'qote and Roegadyn in 1.0. Why are they trying it again? Make boy bunnies (and female Ronso, since there were always female Ronso...). I really hope they change their minds on this in the future.

TBH those weren't mistakes in 1.0. 1.0 literally just took the exact race/gender options from FFXI and added more detailed character models with more customization options then renamed them something different. So that actually started many years before they even got started on FFXIV.

I'd really like for neither race to be genderlocked. I'm completely okay with waiting a few patches too for that in all honesty, if they listen to us. I think it really sucks to pull the lore card on us all too to boot with the genderlock, and not at least be forthcoming from the start about it all. Especially since hearing about the 1.0 stuff with genderlocks on races.

I'm really happy for the people who wanted the Hrothgar! I also would simply like the option to play a big buff lady cat and the option for a Viera boy as well. More choices are way more fun then being restricted to only playing a dude hrothgar and a lady viera.

Fact of the matter is they didn't tell us that we WOULDN'T get it, and they're usually pretty quick to turn us down if we're not going to get anything. We just need to keep the momentum going, keep our voices loud, be constructive!
Spewing vitriol, threatening, and offending their persons gets us nowhere.

We'll get Male Viera! We'll get Female Hrothgar! I'd rather them take their time and give us the best quality they can since this is utterly new territory. In the sense that FF as a whole hasn't had canonical Male Viera until now. Keep the disappointment, speak it peacefully, but ultimately, keep hope.

Just chiming in that I would 100% make a male Viera AND a female Hrothgar/Ronso.

Both concepts look really good, but I'd prefer to see BOTH genders for BOTH races. It feels really awful that, we get a stereotype female and a stereotype male. It's 2019 and this is a subscription MMO. This shouldn't be happening.
