Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

never used the forums here before but i’m really disappointed with this. There’s no real reason to genderlock viera and even less for Hrothgar. “But the lore” first of all, the lore is written and can be changed. Second of all, if you went that strictly by lore, male miqote shouldn’t be playable either since they’re so uncommon. There’s no reason for male viera to be unplayable because “oh they’re rarely seen outside the forest” that applies to the entire race as well. There’s concept art for them so they were clearly working on them, so what happened? Genderlocked Hrothgar is even more absurd because there are female ronso all over the place in Final Fantasy X, they’re not a minority amongst their race. The whole “big beastly dudes and tiny dainty women” thing is so tiring, even with the Au Ra. I was so convinced they were going to have male viera because not only is there in game lore for them in the SB 24-man, there’s concept art, and genderlocks would just be a repeat of 1.0’s mistakes. I’m still excited for shadowbringers, but this puts a huge damper on my mood.

I was familiar with the leaks, but was holding out hope that the group that undid gender locks from 1.0 (some of which it had inherited from XI) wouldn't put them back in. After the whole bunny suit fiasco it feels like there are some sort of "bunny anything male" hang up with the Dev team. I would have preferred that they implemented both genders of the Ronso then female-only Viera. Implementing a race obviously geared towards fanservice as female-locked, as a woman, leaves me feeling a bit disgusted. However much I may have liked Fran as a character in XII the Viera (including Fran) and their six-inch heels and lingerie always made me roll my eyes. The main reason I was supportive of including Viera in XIV was I expected that after Yoshida's development team added male Miqo'te to XIV surely they would do the same for Viera--but sadly I was mistaken.

I'm really honestly upset by what happened, and I'm also upset that the decision to leave out male Viera was kept a secret from us till now. At Paris fanfest Yoshi-p said there would be news of male Viera at tokyo fanfest, why wait so long to tell us that this news is that they don't exist?

I question the decision to make races genderlocked. It was never a popular thing among players, who voiced their opinion on this back in the very beginning of 1.00. Please don't make the same mistake again developers, you have gorgeous concept art ready for the male Viera and people really want it.

Lore isn't a good excuse here, as lore has already been changed in this very game to allow for other genders of previously gender-locked races. After years of fielding questions about the male version of the Gold Saucer bunny suit and player disappointment with gender-locked gear, it's completely baffling to me that the team would go forward with this. If resources were truly a concern, then they should have gone with one race, getting both genders for it. It'd be much better to have one fully realized race option than a pair of half-measures.

SE fixed this issue with miqo'te and roegadyn going from 1.0 to 2.0—they can and should fix it again for hrothgar and viera sometime after 5.0's launch. No, they aren't going to be able to get that done before 5.0 at this point. To be frank, though, gender-locked races should have never gotten past the planning stages.

probably not if they were like the concept art even if they were not the femine or 16 year old elezen body type people would have liked for them to be there at least they would have gotten over it
but them not being there at all is just worse and wont get over it till they are added

That doesn't match the reality because never did imagine Male Viera to be either femine much less teenager appearance each player has a concept to it mine is totally different from the fan art presented so far, did imagine them yes but closer to the Hrothgar presented model just with bunny ears lot more fur and aging wrinkles.

Since am not playing male viera personally they can add whatever appearance is indifferent to me as long as they add for those who really want to play with that model.

I respect the spirit but--it's quite obvious the dev team won't react to this. They very rarely react to anything on the forums.
