Well the DRK is the dumb one for taking the penalty and waiting 30 minutes for it im not denying that
I'm just stating the difference between Castrum and Praetorium that's all.
Got AV for my leveling roulette the other day so my expectations were already low. Turns out the tank was woefully undergeared, the highest piece at ilvl 30 and the lowest, their helmet, at ilvl1 with no stats.
We were two Red Mages and even with keeping Diversion/Lucid on CD one or the other of us ended up tanking by the end of each pull. Of course it was all our fault for "going all out dps on random targets". The poor AST meanwhile was spamming heals nonstop because even while he had aggro the tank had the resilience of a wet paper towel.
I just got out of a Sirensong run, while uneventful it brings up the questions of why can't I blacklist people during a run and what setting do I need to change to kill those damn soundeffects people macro.
The tank subjected us to this gem on every. damn. boss:
They got aggro from me alright.
I once got in the Vault with my AST in my levelling days, but with a i130 weapon. I just were feeling something wasn't right because I had to put effort for heals, then a dps said "man, do you really want heal with a i130 weap?", me: "OMG", we did a laugh but ended the fight with no casualties. Until that time I did not noticed it... upgraded all gear but completely forgot a weapon exists... but the Vault is particularly unforgiving for the undergeared.
I wouldn't call iLvl 130 weapon undergeared, more like not optimal. You upgraded the rest of your equipment, so you should've been fine. The next best AST weapon (iLvl 139/equip-Lvl 56) would've given you 2 additional magic damage, and 7 MND. That's not that much of a difference.
I ran the Vault myself so many times with augmented ironworks gear (all roles). As long as you know the mechanics, and how to react to them, you are more than fine. You might break a sweat when people screw mechanics more than once or twice (espcially the last boss, since you have to aoe heal a lot).
I've kept up with this thread for a while (even though I just made a forum account, I've been lurking for a long time). Anyway, for my first post in the thread, I want to share a really positive experience that happened today.
I queued for a ARR leveling roulette because my AST needed about a bar to get to level 50. I main MNK and am just starting to get comfortable with healing, but still have some trepidation there. So I'm saying as I hear the 'shwing' that means the duty is about to commence "please not aurum, please not aurum..." you know what I mean.
So we go in to Cutter's Cry, a dungeon I've not done at all. Everything is going very smoothly until we reach the last boss. I'm sure readers of this thread are fully aware of the mechanics, which are now emblazoned on my mind. The veterans in our party explained the mechanics, but we still wiped (I think) 4 times due to being too close for Ram or too far out for Dragon. I'm watching the party list for heals so hard I don't see the casting text until it's too late, and well, poof. Again and again.
Around the third and fourth try I'm starting to feel really bad about things and wondering if we're going to get this. I told the party I was going to move the party list over by the mob casting text so hopefully I could see both things at once, and then I cast protect and we run in again. Everything went much smoother with the party text near the mob cast text, and we got it down to probably 20% then <<WHOMP>> I died again. But everyone is pretty well healed at this point and I think they might possibly be able to pull through. With me cheering as a crumpled heap on the floor, the tank and dps put forth a superhuman effort and we got the clear.
So, if you were in Cutter's Cry with a new AST around 10-ish US Central time and this sounds familiar, Thanks! Thanks for the great learning experience, the three commendations (blush), and most of all, for a heck of a lot of fun.

This story is a few weeks old, but thought it was worth sharing since it falls between good and bad run lol.
Alliance roulette, got World of Darkness. Got the "One or More Players are New to This Duty" note. Didnt think much of it, except when we got to eyeball boss we wiped like 4 times very quickly.
Now, I hate going into Alliance chat, most of my experience there is with the nasty trolls who cant keep their mouths shut, but I realized 6 of my party members had never been in the run, and considering the other parties hadn't bailed yet, i was suspecting the others were in a similar situation. So I sucked it up and started typing out some mechanics tips as we went, fully expecting someone to tell me to STFU and be stuck banging my head against a wall until we ran out of time.
The resulting run was probably the longest WoD slog you will ever encounter. But people were listening. There was a couple other vets that piped up in chat to explain mechanics too, so that was nice to see. We wiped like 4-6 times on every boss, but people were listening and trying to learn it, because each time we made a little more progress.
We cleared at nearly an hour and a half. DX
Sorry, it's not a very interesting story, but I just wanted to share because I usually avoid putting myself out there in 24 man like that. And despite all the headaches, it was fun and reminded me of the cooperation you see on first day clears. I think it matters being able to communicate without immediately jumping to insults, or silently stewing in anger, I guess.
Probably because they're already in a party with you and the game won't separate you in a duty.
I think macro sound effects count as a system sound (not too sure), so maybe try turning that off, although you'll also mute the queue pop sound if it is a system sound.
Hard Halatali from roulette.
Red Mage is really not following the target markings. (mechanics not quite going right I can understand, both DPS were first-timers)
Red Mage is also hardcasting Verfire/thunder.
Red Mage also does not speak any English so I can't help T-T
On the first boss we had a little accident activating the mammet too late, so just me and the dragoon survived the big swing. He then died a bit later to... something. No idea what.
Turns out, the defensive buff from the mammet is silly strong, and with just 2 potions I was able to clear the boss, with more HP at the end than when we messed up the big swing. That felt kinda stupid.
Honest question why do people use those soundeffect commands in their macros. Most likely a person issue on my part but I do find them extremely annoying.Got AV for my leveling roulette the other day so my expectations were already low. Turns out the tank was woefully undergeared, the highest piece at ilvl 30 and the lowest, their helmet, at ilvl1 with no stats.
