FFXIV is only a solo game if you choose to play it solo. If you take a little inititive to form pts for lvling and strongholds or darkholds you can pretty much find ppl. Granted immediately before and after a patch, like now, it is a little harder to find ppl to lvl with but its not impossible.

Also there are alot of ppl who are new who have no ls and dont know where to find one or what to do. A newbie ls is always a good thing to start to get the ball rolling, learn the game and get exp both for yourself and others. I was completely unhappy with xi until I took the inititive and save up the 8k gil lol and buy a ls to start up my own group. Ended up playing with some of those ppl for yrs.

As I said post xmas we may see an influx of ppl with the game as cheap as it is during xmas sales so that starter ls would be a fairly smart route to go if you cannot find an established one. It will also help to retain the new players. If you want to trash your current char and start over in mysidia I will help you get the ball rolling on a new player ls and getting some stuff done.

And to Suzaku...if your graphics in xi were horizontally stretched that was an issue with your config and an easy fix ^^ also yay for drg pets! Drg here need a lil pet wyvern too!

I know this is the fotw + it's Star Wars etc etc but seriously--even the trailers look stunningly unexceptional.

I liked FFXIV's graphics a lot, I do like the game. but I don't have time for 2 MMO's. I had to choose. I choose SWTOR for now. So far I am having a blast. Well, I do have a blast some times in FFXIV, but I've having more blast in SWTOR atm. It's all about fun. If it's not fun, then why play?

Not everyone has the time to shout or wait for a shout for a party. SE should fix the party seeking thing like FFXI. Why can't they do it like ffxi in the first place?

Nope, there's only 5 other people level 1-15 on my server, myself included, that I've seen through search the past few days; only one of them wanted to party.

? Buy a LS? They're free, aren't they? Anyways, my experiences with LS's have been disappointing thus far, as they've all been based around 25+ content and did not want anything to do with me until I grinded to 25.

    4. Elitist
    5. Economy is bad
    6. Ninjas (unintentionally) make better tanks than DDs.

What turns me off from FFXIV:
    1. Until level 25, the best way to get XP is by grinding.
    2. The storyline is spread a bit thin and hardly helps in leveling up, so between each set of story content (for the mainline, non-GC story at least), it's broken up by long stretches of grinding
    3. Levequests are the main source of income rather than story-driven quests
    4. Crafting is fun at first but quickly turns just as boring as DoW/DoM grinding
    5. Lack of social interaction

So between the two...I'd say stick with FFXI if you don't mind missing out on the chance to give feedback/experience once-in-a-lifetime content.

EDIT: Also ToR is meh IMO. SWG Pre-CU was way better My favorite MMO ever.
I think certain servers have elitist on XIV as well, I know, trust me.. but I agree with you on most other points. \

and to Norack, I know what you mean exactly, I played FFXI and I enjoyed the crap out of it.. The people I met were awesome, and the sense of community that I had on that game makes me now, 2 years down the road, yearn for a similar experience. I'll be honest I've played XIV since beta and only at the beginning was that sense felt. Right now its nothing but small cliques (at least on myserver), that like to get things done, yet unless your in with them you hardly get to play. I hate playing solo, however recently thats what its boiled down to as population is decreasing drastically. I love this game, it's the only game that I want to play, the sad thing is when I log in it's so depressing that I generally log off in 10 minutes. It needs a server merge, or a turbo boost in population, and they need to stop gearing fights to encourage community wide job stacking , it sucks.

I feel bad for new players in this game, I really do, because 90% of this community forgets about the smaller people, it's like occupy eorzea or something.. When I'm on its all i do now because I fell behind the curve and i'm not geared enough for certain fights, pushed to the weigh-side.

I tend to agree. I liked 11, I had fun in 14. I'm rather disappoint lately. Ifrit drops frustrated me, new weapons look like it is for the hello kitty audience. I'm having fun with STOWR, and many of my ls is coming over to play. I love FF because of the subjob system and the mixing system of 14. That distinguished it for me beyond anything else, but that seems to be lessening. I'll keep my on on 14, and also the secret world, but my life can only handle 1 mmo at a time, and for now 14 makes me less happy than the competition.

FYI, FFXI was first released on the PS2 console, it didn't get a PC release a year later, and maybe another year for the xbox360 console.

Yeah still here on XIV waiting and reading and playing occasionally till 2.0 comes out. I'll pay till then since I got a whole year for free; can't really bitch. As of right now, I hope things will go back to the great parts of this game will continuing to progress to things that should have been available at launch.

Tried Swtor and it was Aion in space so been playing a free Flash game called Wakfu with LS mates. Doing our best to all stay together, at least we like each other lol. Like most, the having of a LS is painful especially right now with Holidays coming and then billing starting.

Once all that has come and gone, you will be left with the hardcore players that want to see XIV succeed. If SE/Yoshi/Devs can't get it done by then end of next year and retain what they have or bring in the new, this will hurt a lot of fans and of course SE's business.
